The Daily Show is absolutely, positively...
the best show on TV--any channel, any timeslot. Period.

Why in the hell does it take a show on Comedy Central to cut through the GOP bullshit and speak the truth. I know Jon Stewart contends it is a simply a parody--a comedy, but it actually is the closest thing to a real news media this country has left.

1. Agreed
John Stewart is really on lately.

"They're not like the Tailban... they don't wear the little scarf thingies."

2. It's not quite comedy
But brilliant satire, something America sees too little of.
You know Jon is in high esteem when he is invited to appear on entertainment/news shows. His appearance on "Crossfire" was scathing and a classic.

6. His appearance on "Crossfire" made me prouder to be an American
than, well, anything I've seen from our corporate media since Bush was selected, that's for damn sure.

When you can say that about a comic with a cheezy half-hour fake-news proram in all seriousness (and I am), you know something's seriously wrong with this nation.

3. Because Comedy Central isn't bought and sold...
by the GOP. Yet... Look out for rich Repugs trying to buy the network.

7. We have become a medieval country
in the days of yore, if you criticized the king, he would have you hung, drawn and quartered. The only people who could criticize the king were the court jesters.....clowns pretending to be funny, but everyone knew they could get away with criticizing the king because they were 'just being funny'.

Scary thought, but that is exactly where we are today

9. I caught one thing that really stood out from Tuesday's episode
when it repeated last night:

They showed this "debate" from CNN about gay adoption, and some woman pulled this insane stat out about how kids in gay households are more likely to be sexually abused. The stats were complete bullshit, as both the opposing debater and Jon Stewart pointed out, but the CNN anchor just kept smiling and ended with "this has been an interesting debate".

John Stewart, after showing the clip, yelled "You're an anchor! Do your job and call her on her bullshit!"

A parody show on Comedy Central did more research than CNN!

10. That's the scene I immediately thought of when I read this post, too.
"You're an anchor, for f***'s sake!" He makes me happy to avoid "real" TV newscasts. But why isn't anyone else expressing this outrage?

My brother caught that part, I didn't notice it until he pointed it out when we watched it.

It was great to see

12. I understand exactly the schemes and designs that have
replaced journalism in Murka with propaganda.

What I don't understand is why there isn't more comic treatment of the neotheocon coup. They provide such an inexhaustable wealth of material that is simultaneously absurd, ironic, jaw-droppingly outrageous and blacker comedy than death itself.
