3. like this?
The controversial legislation, which supporters say is needed to protect the nation from illegal immigrants, may be be passed in conference as early as Friday. Both chambers of Congress have already passed their versions of the bill; the Senate version does not contain REAL ID but it is expected to be added during negotiations. Senate Democrats say they are being out of discussions in much the same way that the House Democrats were kept out of negotiations in late 2004.

Late last year, the Republican House leadership snubbed the White House by not allowing the Intelligence Reform Bill to go to a floor vote. The House version of REAL ID (HR 418), championed by House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), was to be attached to the Intel bill.

As RAW STORY reported in February, some members of the Republican caucus were split on many of 418’s controversial provisions. In an effort to soothe Republican dissent, Sensenbrenner held a series of secretive closed door meetings, along with a leading conservative Republican member with ties to Jerry Falwell and James Dobson, in order to convince the members of his delegation to support the bill by suggesting that the far Christian right would “rain down fire and brimstone.”

18. Look closely at this Florida DMV issued license.

Now, tell me,
What day was it issued?
What day does it expire?

Who gave him this?
Because it certainly wasn't Osama.
The damn thing is REAL.

And don't forget that that even after all that happened,
they still sent Atta and Co papers allowing them to continue flight school.

Representative John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, said he was astonished at the slipshod handling of the visas.
"I have been wondering for some time whether this administration suffers from myopia as it continues with a misguided focus in pursuit of homeland security," Mr. Conyers said. "I am astonished that while the I.N.S. is fixated on detaining and rounding up countless Arab-Americans without any justification, it has failed to take basic steps to ensure that visas are not issued to known terrorists."

On March 16, the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted to block a Congressional investigation of how a gay prostitute was granted daily access to the White House for two posing as a reporter without credentials or even a standard background check.
These 21 GOP lawmakers acted to suppress evidence which would identify who inside the White House was giving special favors to Washington-area male escort Jeff "Bulldog" Gannon, and possibly passing him classified documents.

9. This is why Clear Channel has been banging the illegal immigration drum
Especially here is SoCal. It is to get massive support for this REAL-ID act, which will ultimately be an incursion on our civil liberties. (From the article)

* creation of national ID/driver's license card.

* 418 controversial provisions.

* attached to a "must-pass" bill (includes emergency money for troops in Iraq and Afghan and for tsunami aid.)

* "facilitates" the building of physical barriers to protect US borders. Homeland Security Secretary can waive federal, state, and local laws regarding environmental, eminent domain and labor laws.

* requires individuals seeking refuge in the U.S. from repressive or abusive regimes to provide documented proof of their persecution or abuse as well as the abusing government’s motivation.

* Groups opposing include ACLU and Gun Owners of America

“In considering this bill, the U.S. House will vote on whether to empower the federal government to determine who can get a driver’s license – and under what conditions,” Gun Owners of America said in a statement. “Since you need a driver’s license to purchase a gun from a dealer, this will give the expanded ability to impose even greater forms of gun control – something which it has long coveted. This will become even more apparent if an anti-gun Democrat like Hillary Clinton wins the presidency in 2008.”

10. Anyone watching the Senate right now?
Kent Conrad, Byron Dorgan, Paul Sarbanes, Robert Byrd, and Ted Kennedy (so far) holding forth on the abomination that is the budget. They are furious about both the lockout AND the budget itself.

12. I'm watching it and I'm shocked...
How can Bush and the Republican bastards in Congress lie to the face of the American people? How can they say that they shall reduce the deficit by half when it will really increase over $600 billion each year between now and 2010?

How were they even trying to justify that lie? The whole thing is like a badly written C-level movie...

That's why they lie. They know they can get away with it now. They have control of everything in DC and the media is on their side.

17. Is This A Done Deal????
HOW in the world can this happen. Isn't there SOMETHING that can be done???

I now believe that we are among citizens of a country gone MAD! When will be the time of true Revolt?? Is this any better than having Saddam running the country?? My resentment has been boiling for so long now and I think has reached it's limit.

Is there nothing we can do?? Is it really possible that we'll be forced into a real revolution to rid ourselves of these dictators!!

19. From reading this story
it seems to me the democrats are really getting the republicans and so they feel threatned and have to rewrite bills and/or lock them out. It shows to me they are on the defensive and aren't getting anything done and they even control the government!

21. That's true,
but in their massive panic attack they're doing all kinds of hideous damage to the people.

Watching this last night, I found myself wondering about a different kind of nuclear option - could the house and senate dems just go on strike, and if they did would it stop business, or could the repukes just say good! and proceed unimpeded.

Locking dems out of conference negotiations is unconscionable. What can they do to stop it, if anything? Before 2006, that is.

22. Ya Know... This Is Getting Waaaayyy To Scary!!
We need to find some way, and I have NO answers here, to stop this runaway Congress which only "rubber stamps" the corruption in the WH!!!

I'm becoming so incensed that I'm about to lose all logical thinking!! Where once I always tried to use a "kill 'em with kindness" approach, that tact is giving way to implosion on my part!

Not something that usually garners support because you only stoop down to THEIR level!!

I knew we would have major problems with The EEEIIIIdiot back in the WH, but never thought it would be so swift and so fast!! Something has got to be done!!!
