Exxon Mobil made over $25 billion in profits in 2004., and that there profits were up 44% just this quarter!

CBS reports Exxon-Mobil has $30 billion dollars in the bank and a project called Blackbeard Prospect off Louisiana Coast that is costing them $100 million.

Let's see...1 billion is a million million. I think they can afford it!

Ended segment by saying it's "almost impossible not to make money in the oil business" these days. What an understatement!

I salute CBS for bringing this to the attention of the American people--finally!

1. I haven't seen it yet (PST), but did he ask why a company making
record profits is due windfall tax breaks from Bush?

3. In the US it is a thousand million
In the UK it's a million million, ie, what we call a trillion.

In any case, it's a hell of a lot of money.

4. Thought so, too. My dictionary says a million million, but it's wrong!

12. The British billion is a million millions, you must be referencing...
...the Oxford English Dictionary. That begs the further question then as to Carl Sagan's references to the billions and billions of galaxies in the universe. was he really saying their are several thousand millions of galaxies? But then he did come up with the term for 10 to 100th power ( 10 followed by 100 zeros) or at least his 5 year old son did.....a goggle!

6. No kidding?
A "billion" means 10^12 in the UK? Fer crying out loud, that's confusing.

5. Amazing coincidence
I just this moment logged onto DU to ask if anyone had noticed that CBS is doing a decent job reporting the news under Bob Schiefer.

My viewing is spotty, and so my conclusion certainly premature, but last night they reported on the new Florida law that gives greater latitude to individuals to defend themselves in public.

They interviewed one Katie Phang who cogently pointed out the dangers inherent in this law, and at the end of the report, Mr. Schiefer asked a question to the reporter as if to underline the fact that in Florida you can off someone just because you feel threatened by them.

Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 06:06 PM by flpoljunkie
you can do is whine. I can assure you that most folks have no idea that Exxon-Mobil made these kinds of profits, and those who can buy Exxon-Mobil already know how well they have been doing.

9. Kudos to CBS!
The last network with any bastion of integrity left. Thank goodness for Viacom. Guess some corporations are better than others.

11. I read somewhere tonight that CBS' "60 Minutes" will do the story on fake
...interrogations down at Gitmo, posed only for the visiting Congressmen's trips down there--to air this Sunday night.

And it was CBS, I'll bet, who got Rove to move from 8:30 pm to 8 pm tonight. Of the Big Three, I still trust them the most.

13. Ditto... (Please send xx's & ooo's for their good stories)
I know it's kind of in the 'too little, too late' column, but SOME decent coverage is so much better than NONE at all.

When they do good, we should drop a nice note.
