1. Gotta give the sheeple their bread and circuses.
It's all part of the plan.

10. Exactly the words that crossed my mind. I wonder if this applies
to sports like NASCAR racing, professional fishing, world poker tour, tennis, golf, surfing and the like?

3. Gotta keep that circus atmosphere going.
Besides which, it doesn't look good when the Pat Tillmans get killed in action, particularly by their own side.

4. How did sports get to be more important than war?
This is asinine. The guy sign on for a 5 year commitment. But because he is good at knocking people over for control of a funny shaped ball, they will let him bail? His obligation after that? Sucker some kids into becoming canon fodder?
What is this nation becoming?

The only thing missing from the Coliseums are the lions and they are working on that.

9. From what I can tell, most of these jocks are Republican.
Gotta protect your own, ya know?

Most of the ones who came out and announced their preference for POTUS supported Bush. Look at all of the jocks who hold or held elected offices--Jack Kemp, Steve Largent, JC Watts, Tom Osborne, Jim Bunning, etc. The only "jock" I can think of who ran as a Democrat is Bill Bradley.

11. Naw, he's remembering the hardships the five Dallas Cowboy
players in his Texas Air National Guard Unit had to go through defending Houston from the VC.

7. Guess no one has to keep his word.
We are sure getting a really bad trained 'ruling' class of second rate people getting to the top. Bad business for a country that worked on the best getting to the top. Look at the countries that are letting the best go to the top and you can be sure we will be looking UP to them in a few years.

12. What sucks to me is the prospect of these guys recruiting. "Hi,
I'm a highly paid professional athlete and you should go die for BushCo."

8. What if these "Pro Caliber" people use steroids?
Where does Mr. Anti-Steroid pResident sit on that little issue?

Although the random pee tests in the military might already be preventing this...
