Justice Sunday Emcee Does Business With The Klan
From Civil Commotion:

I wonder if any of Tony Perkin's fans at the justice Sunday rally knew about this from the latest issue of The Nation:

"Four years ago, Perkins addressed the Louisiana chapter of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), America's premier white supremacist organization, the successor to the White Citizens Councils, which battled integration in the South. In 1996 Perkins paid former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke $82,000 for his mailing list. At the time Perkins was the campaign manager for a rightwing Republican candidate for the US Senate in Louisiana. The federal Election Commission fined the campaign Perkins ran $3,000 for attempting to hide the money paid to Duke."

Hmmm. Who are the Council of Conservative Citizens? Is The Nation, a emphatically left leaning publication, overstating the case? Judge for yourself:

1. We believe the United States is a Christian country.

We believe that the United States of America is a Christian country, that its people are a Christian people, and that its govt and public leaders at all levels must reflect Christian beliefs and values.

2. We believe the United States is a European country, and that Americans are part of the European people.

We believe that the United States derives from and is an integral part of European civilization ... and that the American people and govt should remain European in their composition and character ... We believe that illegal immigration must be stopped, if necessary, by military force and lacing troops on our national borders...

Nice folks Senator Frist is all pally with. Isn't wild how David Duke keeps popping up in the GOP equation? They just can't seem to find it in their hearts to send him packing.

5. Why would this bother his "fans"?
His "fans" are all Christianazis who count bigotry as a moral strength. They're closed minded, bigoted, racists who often portray themselves as accepting, compassionate, "we are all one" Christians, but that's merely a thin veneer to cover their real personalities.

Buying David Duke's mailing list is a natural for them, their target demographic lies upon those pages. Homophobic, Xenophobic, Theocrats that would love nothing more than to control the Federal Government to create their "perfect" vision of America. White, heterosexual, Christian fundamentalist, males governing the United States with religious intrusion into every aspect of life. Dominionist re-education camps for those who are not up to speed with their whack-job beliefs. Women, stripped of all rights to manage their own bodies, staying home to bake bread and tend to the children (DOZENS of them, for no birth control will be allowed). "A Handmaid's Tale" come to life, and in all likelihood meeting the same end.

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.

6. America composed of Europeans who dragged people of color here
in chains and built great fortunes with their blood, sweat and tears, who imposed genocide on the Natives, who used Asians and the Irish (somehow, not so "white" as other white folks some years ago) to build this nation's railroads and continue to build our homes, pick our vegetables, prune our lawns and cook our fast food on the backs of Mexican immigrants - legal and illegal - with wages less than would be paid their European counterpart.

If these people are so proud of their European heritage, why don't they go back where they came from? (That was an attempt at irony.) Of course, they'd be hard pressed to find many Europeans who think quite the same way they do. Seems the Enlightenment was a little more effective in some places, not here.

8. Steroid Arnie...
His support for vigilantism looks to be taking quite a toll on his poll numbers. Great article on CA's Sacramento disgrace in today's NY Times. Is it time to start the recall yet? I hear we might have a special election coming up ...

I second the welcome!

I wonder how many of these folks, who might have a slaveowner or two as an ancestor, have black blood coursing through their veins and don't know it....delicious irony to contemplate....

15. Yet another bad mark on Missouri as the CofCC is based in
MO...go to cofcc.org. They even ran a slate of right-wingers for the city of St Louis school board back in the 80s.

At one time their leaders had a radio show on wgnu every Friday night but negative publicity about another racist radio show, hosted by a member of the national alliance, on the same station caused the cofcc show to be cancelled.
