"Take John Bolton – he's a good man I nominated to represent our country at the United Nations. John's distinguished career and service to our nation demonstrates that he is the right man at the right time for this important assignment. I urge the Senate to put aside politics and confirm John Bolton to the United Nations." (Bush, Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Address, 4/21/05)
Bush Nominated A U.N. Ambassador Who Despises the U.N. "The Secretariat building in New York has 38 stories. If it lost 10 stories, it wouldn't make a bit of difference," Bolton said. And in 2000, Bolton told National Public Radio that the U.N. Security Council needed only one permanent member, the United States, "because that's the real reflection of the distribution of power in the world." (LA Times, 3/8/05)
Bolton's Nomination Opposed By Republicans. Bolton's nomination has faced resistance from many Republican Senators. Sen. George Voinovich said on the day when a vote was supposed to be held on Bolton's nomination: "I don't feel comfortable voting today." Sen.
