Jon Stewart lobs softballs at Zell "crackhead" Miller - (VIDEO)
May 2, 2005

Video - Daily Show: Jon Stewart lobs softballs at "crackhead" Zell Miller

Zell Miller remembers challenging Chris Matthews to a dual after his speech at the RNC Convention.

Zell tells Jon to be careful because he is "packing heat."

Miller explains that "gangsta rap" is indecent and should be outlawed because he doesn't want it "blasting" in the ears of his granddaughter.

1. Promoting His Book on TDS?
Especially after the Laura bit - I thought he might walk out, but being a typical greedy thug first and foremost, Zell stayed.

Who in the hell watching TDS would buy a Zell Miller book?

2. At the end
Did John have to say, you know what, I think I really like you? Good Lord.

3. Jon is nice to all his guests - too nice
Edited on Tue May-03-05 10:00 AM by DeaconBlues
I guess he doesn't want to alienate the right-wing toads because he wants to keep a balanced number of guests.

About Zell Miller's comments regarding wanting to outlaw rap: How about just not letting your stupid little granddaughter listen, and leave the liberties of the rest of us alone!? Asshole!!

7. Most interviews are not worth watching
I no longer have Comedy Central, but I used to turn tds off once the 'segments' were over. At that point it's a long commercial break, a guest interview that almost always disapponts (Bonilla the exception) another commercial break, and 'thats our show'.

10. I agree
Edited on Tue May-03-05 10:35 AM by DeaconBlues
I still sit through them because I love the show overall, but I rarely get any enjoyment out of the interviews - unless he interviews someone on the left, then I watch just for the rare opportunity to see an actual progressive on cable tv.

11. Did you see…
the episode where Al Sharpton didn’t show up for his interview? That was the best one ever. Instead of doing the interview they went improv. Hilarious.

4. Weird interview
Edited on Tue May-03-05 10:03 AM by high density
With an especially weird ending. What the hell was that? After what happened with Chris Matthews, I didn't expect Jon to be confrontational with him, but the "I really like you" (or whatever it was) thing at the end was very strange.

5. quick reminder. Jon Stewart is not a journalist. He's the star of a "fake
news" spoof. To expect him to ask hard-hitting journalistic questions is a little silly.

6. but it is a little hypocritical to express sham outrage when a talking
head doesn't confront a guest whose lieing (for example, Jon made a joke out of pundits on CNN not calling a woman who was bullshitting about the effects of same-sex families), and then to give that ass Zell Miller a rubdown.

I know its a comedy show, but such things are still cringe-inducing

8. Jon didn’t fail to call out lies.
He did state his position and how he sees things differently than Zell, though. He also stated that he disagrees with him on everything he stands for. I don’t think that’s comparable to the network anchors failing to call out lies…. Especially when Jon has never even pretended to be “news”. Network anchors do.

9. He's a comedian so what's the excuse for not being funny?
I don't care if he 'nails' his guest with hard-hitting questions, I just want him to use the guest's foolishness to make me laugh. But he doesn't often do so. His monologues are good, Lewis Black is good, the segments are good, but the guest interviews are boring. Just mho.

12. I fully agree. I don't even watch the interviews anymore
they suck and he's not a very good interviewer (from a comedic standpoint). My point was pretty obviously that it's stupid to criticize him for lobbing softball questions.

14. I Liked The Interview
I loved it when JS pointed out how people glorify "decent" times of old like the 50's but there were things like segregation, McCarthyism etc.

I really think he tries for a conversation not a shout-down and I love it because I'm sick of "Crossfire" type shit too -- I think it gets everyone involved nowhere.

John did great. He's doesn't beat up on his guest but gets his views across effectively without being obnoxious.

Edited on Tue May-03-05 07:03 PM by Vickers
Sure he said he liked him, bute followed that with "although we disagree about everything."

Remember how everybody had such a big hard-on when he gave Bowtie Boy shit about just having yelling matches on Crossfire? C'mon, you remember!

The best part about the interview? The way he let Zell go on and on about how fucked up Washington DC is, when he *is* Washington DC.

Jon is great. If all interviews were as civilized as that one was, TV would be wonderful.

Jon knows that Zell was big on segregation back in the days, enjoy the irony, does anybody rememember the segments that Jon did on Zell after the convention.
