Kaine endorsed by mine workers' political action committee
<COMPAC, the Coal Miners' Political Action Commission, heard speeches from various candidates Monday, including Kaine, Republican gubernatorial hopeful Jerry Kilgore, attorney general candidate Creigh Deeds and others.

Kaine said he saw many "good friends in the room" of the COMPAC meeting. "When you see friends, it makes it go well. "

Kaine said getting the endorsement of the COMPAC was very important to him. "This is the approval of hard-working folks and shows them a sign of respect to come down here and try," he said.

"I don't want to predict, but I feel good about my chances," Kaine said, around 12:15 p.m., before learning he had received the endorsement.

Kaine said he stressed to the COMPAC members that "I wasn't born here, but I'm not a stranger. I understand union labor is proud labor.">
