Interesting number crunching of Senatorial Representation
christian conservative "leaders" and their lunatic lemmings like to blather about their power and influence and how the gop has a 55-45 advantage in the Senate. Quite an interesting note in Gene Lyons latest Moose and Squirrel,

MORE AMERICANS ARE REPRESENTED BY THE 45 DEMOCRATS IN THE SENATE THAN BY THE 55 REPUBLICANS. Relevant? Probably not. But an interesting aside anytime a fascist wants to whine about the filibuster. Obviously that stand is represented and supported by the majority of Americans.

2. Argh, argh
You make me chuckle. Do you work for Diebold? Are you guaranteeing the 06 election results? Give the gop another year and a half of their continuous fuck ups and let the voting begin.

6. I truly love the obstructonist Democrats
They are preventing the republicans and their bosses, the religiously insane, from replacing the constitution with the bible. I send them a few bucks every now and then to aid in their obstructionist actions. And to think, you'll benefit from their obstructionist ways.

4. I used that in a LTTE to my local paper.
Still watching for the angry Repup reponse. Letter was published Saturday, but they're kind of slow.

Probably be there today.

Also used that in LTTE to the Wash Post responding to an Op-Ed by Senator Rick Sanctimonius Moran. That one didn't get published though. I think I was a day late and a dollar short.

Here's the text of that letter:

Subject: RE: Majority Vote Should Trump Minority Rule April 17th Edition

Senator Rick Santorum has a selective grasp on the facts regarding minorities, majorities, the will of the people and Congress. He makes the claim that the people only have 2 options to influence the election of judges: through the election of the President and the election of Senators. However, President Bush did not win the majority of the popular vote in this country for the term in which he nominated the judges in question. Additionally, while there are 55 Republican Senators in Congress, they actually represent a smaller percentage of the population of the United States then the 44 Democratic Senators. So in essence his argument fails both of his litmus tests regarding flaunting the will of the majority of the people. The opposite case could actually be made, that Republicans, particularly partisan ideologues such as Senator Santorum, are the ones flaunting the will of the people.

8. The Senate was never meant to be proportional
because some states are rural and would be completely shut out of decision making in a totally proportional Congress by population powerhouses like NY and CA.

Pubbies represent more dirt than Dems do, in other words, but we already knew that.
