Anyone watching CSPAN2 / BBC British elections?
They just did a segment that was straight out of Monty Python.

It was a computer graphics set of the street outside 10 Downing Street. The 3 leading candidates were in a "race" to the finish line even with the door.

It reminded me so much of the "twits" race!!!!

1. Wasn't that wonderful?
I like their coverage; it's smart without being condescending.

2. Peter Snow- the 'Q' of BBC's election coverage.
Or some might say the nutty professor...Every year he wheels out a host of ever more bizarre new graphics.

7. I've watched a bit from BBC Stream. It's really interesting..the differen
comments. And the stories about the "ballot boxes with the X's being sped all over GB."

I'm biting my nails hoping Blair get's hurt just enough tht investigations start all over the world over Iraq Invasion.

8. BTW....a very funny graphic. It would be great for a little more Python i
these times. We could use it...there's little political humor except for the "Daily Show." But, they can't do it all for all tastes.

9. Good God! This takes FOREVER!
I've been switching back for the past 1/2 hour and NOTHING is happening. It's reporting one mayor's race in the US at a time.

10. It's nice to see Brit Media pay attention to the "little guys" though in
contrast to the "Game of Winner and Loser" in the P-Residential Horse Race here in America where they give shit about the local "peasants."

12. That's because they hand-count the votes
Now....
Which would you rather have? Immediacy or accuracy? :)

13. After watching an hour of this, it's a tough call.
And think about it, if everyone sort of starts counting at the same time, wouldn't they be done at nearly the same time? It's like Chinese water torture.

11. Blair's speech...
...where he acknowledged that although it is likely a Labour government will be retuned they have a reduced majority, and they must listen and respond to that message from the British people.

Come on, Tony! Didn't Georgie Bush tell you it only matters if you win? It doesn't matter by how much! Even if it's only 1% that means you have a mandate from your people and you can do whatever the hell you want!

I've enjoyed watching the British elections. My husband is English (from Sunderland), so we've been tuned in all evening. I also enjoyed the Question Time program the other evening. How refreshing to see a true "town hall" format where citzens were able to confront and grill the candidates, and the moderator was also giving them hell! Oh,if only we were allowed to hold our elected officials' feet to the fire like that. Oh, if only we were a true democracy!

14. I saw that. Funny.
The BBC coverage of the national race is ironic and silly, but their digital display of quantitative information is smart, stylish, and quite informative. Two thumbs up.

16. Yeah, it was a hoot! And don't you love those graphics with all
the things appearing, and the little men on the map moving around to show the shift as the marginals swing?

Man, that is SO COOL!! And yet.....they count by hand, God Bless 'em!!

17. The thing is, Britain is so small.
It makes for cosy elections.
