1. Your poll should have read: Who was the dumbest.
The Smartest was FDR, Jefferson & Clinton.

2. Clinton was brilliant.
I was never his biggest fan, but the man is a prodigy.

11. A Rhodes Scholar, at that!
Under Clinton we had the best economy ever! Think back 5 years ago... life was "ok," you know.

Now... welcome to the Cheney/Bush Nightmare.

5. I just wanted a binary poll...
As much as it is considered to be forbidden to dare compare the two, I find so many similarities between the two ethically that I figured a poll might be worth seeing.

Granted, putting the word "smart" in the same scenario with Bush can be pushing it. I feel both have/had the same reptilian attitude when making decisions where many will die by their hand.

3. That's tough. They both were/are pretty wretched.
That said, Hitler actually had to share borders with the people he attacked. On the one hand, it's much more dangerous. On the other hand, your people don't doubt the necessity of the fight, because it is on their doorsteps.

If bombs were falling on your neighborhood, you'd be supporting der Fuhrer too.

4. Unless Hitler had a Rove-like character
I'd say Hitler was smarter. Bush would be nothing without his support system.

7. Hitler had his own assistants, but he did have two advantages

He knew how to speak his language and knew how to write.

9. Which begs the question
What German for "My Pet Goat"?

Yeah, Hitler may have looked scary, but he hardly ever looked like an idiot.

Ficus Plant Announces Candidacy For Congress
http://www.commondreams.org/news2000/0426-09.htm

excerpt:

MORRISTOWN, NJ - April 26 - Claiming that the American people "deserve better," a potted plant, commonly known as "Ficus," formally announced its campaign this morning to seek the Congressional seat in New Jersey's 11th District as a write-in candidate on both the Democrat and Republican Party ballots in the June 6 primary.
"The United States Congress is full of babbling idiots and bumbling morons," said Ficus campaign strategist and filmmaker Michael Moore. "Most run unopposed in their primaries and 95% are re-elected every time in the general election. What we get from these Congressmen-for-life is a lot of hot air, a bunch of promises that are never kept, problems like health care and education that are never addressed, more taxes for a bigger military when there are no wars, and a bigger paycheck for Congress when they don't deserve it."

Moore, in presenting the Ficus at a press conference in the historic town square of Morristown, New Jersey (site of George Washington's military headquarters), also announced that Ficuses in more than twenty other Congressional districts around the country (see list), where the incumbent faces little or no opposition, are also entering the race.

"Ficus Fever is sweeping the nation," said Moore. "In a country where the majority no longer vote, writing in Ficus will give the disenfranchised voter a chance to cast a vote for "None of the Above!"

12. Hitler created a much larger part of his political machine than did
Bush. He started with fewer advantages and a poorer selection of assistants. Perhaps my memory banks are getting a little blinky and brittle, but wasn't Germany about the same size and population as present day Iraq?
I am still convinced that ol "W" hasn't the faintest notion of the meaning of many of the words he uses in his speeches, relying on his writers, prompters, and stage managing to carry him on. His multiple gaffs and "misspeaks" serve to humanize the words of the expert whispering in his ear.

Bush is the first of the "robot" presidents, ala Sony's computerized dog. What he provided was an impeccable set of credentials (his birthright) and a fairly empty brain. Reagan could be fairly argued to be the first, but, due to technological limits, he had to be a skillful speaker and be allowed a certain amount of autonomy, and, when he used it, tended to wander off into some really stupid territory. Bush, on the other hand, has strong set of beliefs and absolutely zero intellectual capability of challenging them and lacks the intellectual honesty or curiosity to even consider rethinking them, making him the perfect foil for a rule by committee presidency.

The neocon machine provides all the thinking, planning, and reasoning the talking head needs, as well as direction and cover. Bush v Hitler? No contest!
