Scream Out: BUSH IS WEAKENING OUR MILITARY
by closing these bases!

Isn't that what they screamed when Clinton did it??

Where are our voices? I keep wondering when the screaming starts.

1. I agree, why does Bush hate the military? Closing bases in wartime?
Stupid.

They'll blame it on clinton though.

6. You do not understand he is saving money
By building 14 permanent bases in Iraq he can station the troops over there cheaper than he can here. For those of us thinking they should be making plans to bring the troops home the plan is clear: They are never coming home. aWoL plans on spending our lives and treasure to profit Haliburton and Exxon forever.

he's making what we have more mobile for waging war on foreign lands, though weakening our defense here.

i live near fort carson, they're to be UP 4000+ with this little realignment. thats 4000 more troops for the war.

17. I know. That was a snide rhetorical question...we're building bases

22. I hate AmeriKKKa for sending our finest over there to make it easy
to kill them there when they never were coming here to do it. Remember MIHOP 9/11. I hate KKKarl and aWoL for lying us into their illegal immoral imperial war of aggression. And I hate the KKKorporate KKKontrolled Propaganda mascaraing as Media in this country for not exposing the FASCIST Thugs for the KKKlowns they are.

13. Voted Yes
Repeat after me: We are not at war. When we are at war, the people are called upon to make sacrifices, taxes go up, people get drafted and the Congress declares it. Again. We are not at war and * is not a wartime president.

3. Good I say close the bases
If I was president I would eliminate over half of the Pentagon and cut military spending immensely.

12. Actually I'm reading 40 billion over 20 years
a lousy 2 billion a year which is far outweighed by the waste of money in Iraq.

10. Dumb move
It is dumb to close the Groton sub base and move EVERYTHING to Norfolk where just one terrorist hit would cripple submarine activities on our eastern seaboard.

14. Submarines
I doubt that there is any real threat of terrorists attacking Norkolk or Bangor. And what are we going to use submarines for anyway?

27. Until every loose nuke is destroyed, and until we destroy all that we have
we need the subs. Its as simple as that.

No disarmament until there's total disarmament.

I am not pro militarism. But I am anti stupidity. Closing Groton is stupid for too many reasons to list here.

15. Are you kidding me? Some of you need to wake up!
Some of the comments on here are based on reason. However, dealing with the corrupt conservatives reason means nothing. If this was a Dem president and during a campaign you can bet your ass Rove would run commercials saying the dems are "cutting" the military during a time of war and all of the other sorted bullshit the last campaign was famous for.

I called into Bernie Wards radio show last year and said that Kerry should have went into every red state he could, name every military base within a hundred miles, the jobs they create, the security for the homeland they guard and why in the world would his "opponent" even think about cutting the bases and the military in a time of war? Kerry would have to vow to not accept any final list that came across his desk but a case could be made that the bases could be kept open with additional homeland security missions... It could have been a very lethal campaign issue against all Republicans but as usual the dems chickened out and we allowed ourselves to have our asses handed to us by the swifties...

I am sorry if I sound harsh but to beat these republicans we need to throw their own tactics right back at them BEFORE suffering an election loss. All of us seem to be able to bitch real well afterwards... how about being pro-active?

Note: I also posted this on another thread ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1781481&mesg_id=1781554 ) but thought it pertinet to this thread...
