Bush radio address: "The American economy is the envy of the world"
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. I'm pleased to report that we see new signs that the pro-growth policies we have pursued during the past four years are having a positive effect on our economy. We added 274,000 new jobs in April -- and we have added nearly 3.5 million jobs over the past two years. Unemployment is down to 5.2 percent, below the average rate of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. We have seen steady job gains during each of the past 23 months, and today more Americans are working than at any time in our history.

There are other good reasons for optimism. The economy grew at a solid rate of 3.6 percent over the past four quarters, and economists expect strong growth for the rest of 2005. Manufacturing activity is enjoying its longest period of growth in 16 years. Inflation and mortgage rates remain low -- and we have more homeowners in America than ever before.

These positive signs are a tribute to the effort and enterprise of America's workers and entrepreneurs. But we have more to do. So next week, I will focus on three priorities that will strengthen the long-term economic security of our nation.

The American economy is the envy of the world. For the sake of our nation's hardworking families, we must work together to achieve long-term economic security, so that we can continue to spread prosperity and hope throughout America and the world.

4. Well, it's ability to bring down the world economic system IS the envy.
That its current status is not the envy of the world -- because of Dubya's policies -- is the headache of the world.

been out of work for so goddam long that their benefits have run out. :eyes:

Do you count those drunken slut daughters of yours as unemployed, Chimpy?

7. That's funny. I recall that his net-gain in # of jobs was the worst for an
incumbent president, going back something like 75 years.

Amazing how these lying fuckers can put a spin on almost anything.

8. of those 274,000 new jobs in April most were low-paying service jobs
few were in manufacturing and/or in those industries which could reverse our trade deficit.

the devil is in the details, and as usual the republicans want no one to actually check the details

29. Actually, none in manufacturing. We LOST 6k this month in that sector
It's the mark of pretty much all months of the Bushconomy - mediocre jobs gained, high-tech, manufacturing jobs leaving in droves. This is what, the whopping NINTH month out of 52 that this economy has managed to cover the entering work force (you need at least 150 thousand jobs created to succesfully accomodate new entries in the work force each month, anything less than that, you had a weak month)? Yeah, I'M really envious, Lancelot Link, you dumbass. Crawl back in your monkey cage and ROT. It's already been proven that snarling old man is who REALLY runs this country into the ground.

9. If Bush says it, it must be true....eh...11.4 million Americans
..without jobs and 30.0 million American workers underemployed and Americans carry $32 trillion in personal debt so that the loss of even a single paycheck could put them into default, and that makes the American economy the envy of the world! Wow, who would have thought that we are so admired around the world. What a dick-head.

34. Don't forget
that now they can take our pensions away and we can't even declare bankruptcy for any relief. But don't worry, we'll be covered by social security at 50% benefits once we reach 77 years old.

31. The American economy is the ENEMY of the world
Edited on Sat May-14-05 09:59 PM by welshTerrier2
that's probably what he meant to say ...

without question, the US has by far the deadliest, most powerful military in the world ... the massive military budget is often sold to the American people under the guise of "keeping Americans safe" ...

what must be understood, however, is that the American military and the American CIA are nothing but corporate hitmen ... when foreign countries don't play ball and don't cater to certain trans-national corporations, whatever justification is needed is "fixed around the policy" ...

it's important to see the American economy as a system of corporate hegemony backed up with America's military might ... if other countries are envious of the US economy it's only because they know that US corporations are able to exploit the imbalance in military power ...

35. Huh??? Just got back from England and the American buck
is not accepted anywhere, unless you are willing to give it two for one. And traveling to Paris it was the same story, but not quite as stark. The Euro was worth about a buck and half to our dollaar. Now I know what it was like for the south after the civil war...spending bucks in Europe was like trying to spread confederate dollars. No other country wants to sink with worthless paper.

38. The, "more people working than ever in history" statement.....
is about as useful as saying there are more people living on planet earth today than ever in our history. Duh, does that mean Bush's economic policies are responsible for more people reaching working age. The problem is people actually believe this stuff.

He tried a similar one around election time stating that the gross aggregate earnings of the country were at an all time high. Same thing, this type of stat goes up every year based on population growth not economic prosperity. You would have to look at average household income, or better yet household income as a ratio of CPI to get a meaningful stat. But for sheeple talking points anything will do.
