BUSH-whacking of Military Bases BIG GAIN for TX & FLA ! ! !
"President Bush's home state of Texas could gain more than 9,000 military jobs, primarily in El Paso and San Antonio, even while losing four major installations and several smaller ones. Florida, where the president's brother Jeb is governor, would add 2,575 jobs overall while losing none of its bases."

2. And privatizing the military is NOT saving
money. No corporation that is trying to provide high rates of return for investors, with executives earning HUGE salaries and getting large blocks of preferred stock, is going to be able to provide services like feeding the troops at a rate that is cheaper than what the military was doing for itself. The difference in executive pay scale alone is tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars. The taxpayer is getting royally screwed on this deal.

What's worse is that, in certain situations in Iraq, companies like Halliburton didn't provide services at all---services like DRINKING WATER, which they failed to deliver because they weren't willing to operate in a combat zone. Fucking great. You have reservists in their 40s literally keeling over from lack of water in the high heat, while Dirty Dick and Crazy-Don Rumsfeld are lining the pockets of their friends.

Halliburton, in particular, is in the War for Oil business. They build military bases, feeding and housing the troops, they provide Oil field services and pipline construction... Dick Cheney has been planning this for a long time, apparently. The company that he was CEO of is perfectly positioned to profit from American wars of conquest. We provide the bodies, and Dick provides the wars.

6. Yep
If you haven't watch the documentary "The Carlyle Group." It shows how they profit from war. Even though they're gaining a lot of people are pissed off at this. On the local news they interviewed an older man (in his fifties or sixties I'd say) and he was pretty pissed off and thought it was ridiculous. So maybe this could help open some more eyes.

3. Lieberman says it's not political.
U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman looked crestfallen, and he didn't want to talk about blue states.

“I don't want to think that there was any politics in this,” Connecticut's junior senator said Friday, minutes after he and other state officials told a crowd of reporters at a press conference in New London what they already knew: Groton's Naval Submarine Base was on the list.

While Democratic-leaning Connecticut would take a huge hit if the Groton base is closed by the Pentagon, as was recommended Friday morning, Lieberman and the rest of the congressional delegation said they did not think it was partisan retribution for this small northeastern state's tendency to vote Democratic in Republican times.

“We discussed that issue this morning,” said Rep. Rob Simmons, R-2nd District. “We have no reason to believe that this is a red state-blue state issue.”

17. Yes, it is
Bases are draining away from the blue and NE states and being beefed up in the south.

I think that was in the NY Times article yesterday. I'll see if I can find it.
