Dean Rips Delay
"Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Party, said yesterday that the US House majority leader, Tom DeLay, ''ought to go back to Houston where he can serve his jail sentence," referring to allegations of unethical conduct against the Republican leader."

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2005/05/15/dean_rips_delay_at_convention/

Rest of the article is crap... don't bother with it.

That said... DEAN! You are the man!

1. Great- now talk about "The Memo."
Edited on Sun May-15-05 12:59 PM by Dr Fate
DeLay played golf and went on some trips with lobbyists. I'm sure red-staters are furious.

Now can you say one teeny tiny sentence about "The Memo?" Just one sentence- a half sentence?

A grunt or a "yay" or a "nay?"

How about a "This raises concerns-I hope this gets investigated..."

Something neutral? "I've not seen it, but it sounds like somthing you media people should be talking about more..."

Somthing? Anything? Little help?

5. And perhaps a strong plea for serious election reform in time for 2006?
Speak for the grassroots who are worried about another rigged election. You play Bad Cop, let Dem lawmakers play Good Cop.

9. Not me. I like Dean a lot. I just wish he would say one sentence about it.
Edited on Sun May-15-05 01:12 PM by Dr Fate
Everyone knows all about DeLay- and its good to keep hammering him.

But a single solitary sentence raising concerns about "The Memo" is what I'd love to hear now- it's not just Dean, all the other top Dems refuse to discuss or mention it as well.

22. No, I'm just saying what I'd like to see from my Party's chairman
Edited on Sun May-15-05 03:42 PM by ClarkUSA
Is that okay?

I'd say the same thing if it were Terry McAuliffe. In fact, I did all last year, to no avail.

Election reform is important to me and I'd like to see all Dems address it including the DNC Chairman, no matter who he is.

7. Or suggest to other high-profile DEMs to talk about the memo.
I dont understand why they cant slip in a sentence or two about "The Memo" when they are out talking about these other issues. Is it not important to them?

12. Perhaps they feel that it is beating a dead horse.
Who knows?
I assume most of us thought this all along... and they don't really consider it news? Who knows?

Or, they could be spineless dogs.

14. Clinton's affairs were well known long before Monica.
But that did not stop Top Republicans from going on TV every night and making it an issue.

It's a "dead horse" for the DEM base, but it needs to be official, common-place knowledge that "Bush lied" in every red state.

16. "Fool" the RW echo chamber into talking about "The Memo."
Edited on Sun May-15-05 01:33 PM by Dr Fate
And you do that by having Dean, Kerry, Hillary, Reid, and other house-hold name, high-profile DEms go out and make very pointed, controversial statements about it. Preferably on TV interview & debate shows- but Air America, Daily Show or small town News Paper interviews or major Op-Eds would be a good start.

That would "fool" Right Wingers who have access to the media into talking about it:

"HOW DARE they say Bush lied- this memo is old news! It's from England! WHAT? Hillary of all people wants Bush to go under oath? OUTRAGEOUS!!! HOW DARE THEY!!! Dean is "screaming" again about this old memo- the Dems are obviously out of ideas!!! The Liberal media is out to get us!!!"

And thus, "The Memo" would soon be on Red State front pages and TV screens.

20. Keep begging them via phone, e-mail, snail mail, Q & A at appearences...
...etc.

Good question- the base has been begging them all to speak up for over a week now- I guess we should just keep on begging- mabey one or two will speak up.

17. Example:
McCain is making a mistake by talking about this at all- we need to "fool" more Republicans into talking about it.

in his new position, rather than running for the Dem nomination.

4. Dean's comments received little IF *any* national TV news coverage ...
And to the average dumbed down / over-worked American, if it's not on TV, it didn't happen. :(

Dean should make the weekend news TV rounds: Meet the Press, Wolf Blitzer Sunday and ohh, FOX Sunday :P etc. etc.

11. He should do both. These local appearences are a good idea....
But I agree that he should do more TV appearences too- he could use via-sattelite or cable-distant-learning technology if need be.

21. I agree he should do TV, and I suspect he will.
He's only been chair for a few months, and he's done very well so far. I think as we get closer to elections, you'll see him much more in the public eye. Right now, he's spending his time working at the grass roots level, and that's a very good start! I can cure tell you from experience, that we need HELP here in Ga. at the grass roots level. I know a lot of Dems here who would do anything they could to promote the Dem movement, but none of us are experienced in politics, and simply don't know how to do it. I'm sure we aren't different from any of the other red states. Howard's helping and that's exactly where we need to start!
