Why is everyone blaming Bush?
The White House said on Monday that a Newsweek report based on an anonymous source had damaged the U.S. image overseas.

The report sparked violent protests across the Muslim world -- from Afghanistan, where 16 were killed and more than 100 injured, to Pakistan, Indonesia and Gaza.

"The report has had serious consequences," (McLellan) said. "People have lost their lives. The image of the United States abroad has been damaged."

How could we have been so stupid? All the death and destruction, America's terrible reputation overseas. Don't blame our fearless leader...it's all Newsweek's fault! They are the ones with blood on their hands, and don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise. Besides, Bush has never taken responsibility for any of the messes he's created. Why should he start now?

:wtf: :banghead:

4. Here's their question... total BS
Has Newsweek's apology gone far enough?

Not Should Newsweek have apologized. Newsweek is cooked before the story is done. This is their finger in the chili. Even though there's no reason for it, they might as well shutdown the presses if they're going to bow like they are.

7. my response to their question
The only thing Newsweek has to apologize for is that people were harmed due to reaction to the article. That would not be an issue if the military, intelligence, and private military contractors were not allowed to use tactic of intimidation and psycholocical manipulation that would instill outrage. Detainees are just that until proven otherwise. They should be treated as the keepers would wish to be treated.

22. My response to MSNBC was that no apology is ever
necessary for the truth, and that Bush/Rove had gone into
their stifle the media mode again to save face.

Irony abounds...it seems ok to the Busbots that shrub's lies
have caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands.

26. I like your point
The truth is it's own best defense. In today's world, we may have to advance to only telling truth through art and keep it under the radar of the facists.

11. I may feel like that today
and you may too as well as a whole bunch of us but you know what? I gain tremendous amounts of energy along with the information from everyone here. Today I am tired and angry and freaked out but we are all together and that is worth more than I can say. I never anticipated being in something like we find ourselves in today but it happens to people and it has happened to us. Now we have to keep working. Today though I am tired. One little middle aged woman here but together we are a force and we are not done. HAHA My pep talk. I feel better now.

DU is life support and so much more for all of us here. I don't think there's anyone here I wouldn't take a bullet for. I just hope it doesn't come to that.

6. Do tell, sounds like Condi's fault! Never ever Bush.
Only mistake he has admitted to I can find was during the 2004 debate where he admitted to hiring the wrong person. Yeah probably one of those career people held over from Clinton.

Thanks,

10. More info please?
Are you saying the article was vetted and approved by White House officials prior to publication? Does "these people" refer to Newsweek or the White House?

This is a responce from the editor of Newsweek.

<snip>
Their information came from a knowledgeable U.S. government source, and before deciding whether to publish it we approached two separate Defense Department officials for comment. One declined to give us a response; the other challenged another aspect of the story but did not dispute the Qur'an charge.

23. Thanks Lochloosa.
This whole thing stinks so bad. I am hoping against hope that this will draw attention to the fact that war crimes are being perpetuated daily, and it ain't Newsweek who's to blame.

9. sounds like another memogate
plant a "government official" and after the story runs let the "government official" retract his story. Then trash the publication for loss of lives. Looks like the White House has a new SOP for dealing with the "liberal" media.

of us.

Isn't that their justification for demoninzing France and Germany?

After all, we don't answer to the international community, right?

tHAT IS A POOR ATTEMPT AT REFRAMING RESPONSIBILITIES.

WHAT ABOUT SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES BECAUSE OF ACTIONS/LIES/AND MANIPULATIONS TAKEN/STATED/AND CONDUCTED BY THE BUSH MARABUNTA?

BUT IT IS A PERFECT "WHAT BARBARA BUSH WOULD DO" WELL LEARNED LESSON, FOR AFTER ALL, ISN'T SHE THE QUEEN OF REFRAMING ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING TO MAKE IT FIT HER WAY?

bubble.

No wonder they hate the enlightenment. No wonder they want to go back to the 19th Century. Transparency is bad.
