Need new article on how it's getting easier in to get ahead in Europe.
Al Franken...or was it Springer? Anyway, they mentioned that there was an article (in the NY Times?) about how it's gotten easier to move up class and incomewise in Europe over the USA. They gave no more detail that I can remember. I cannot find the article.

Anyone know what the heck I'm talking about?

1. You mean the news article?
I think it was in the Wall Street Journal on Friday, May 13. Good luck!

2. NYT is running a series on Class in America

There was a comparison in the first article (it might have been a graphic) showing that certain European countries showed more upward mobility than the US. I think that you can still link to it through the front page.

3. No surprise for me.....
I think there is something called the Human Development Index, and every year the U.S. ranks below several countries (Canada is usually in the top 3, sometimes #1). This is an indicator of quality of life.

4. "War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength"
...With these slogans, George Orwell's NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR burst upon the literary world as the definitive anti-utopian novel for the second half of the 20th Century. Europe and America may be the coming Oceania State. Bush's Amerika has already established the criteria for "thoughtcrimes". Christ, there really is a group like this!

<snip>
Students for an Orwellian Society - SOS
Because 2005 is 21 years too late.

What is SOS?
Students for an Orwellian Society (SOS) is a nationwide student group. Although SOS has always been a nationwide student group, there is evidence to suggest that it first appeared at Columbia University. The mission of SOS is to promote the vision of a society based upon the principles of Ingsoc, first articulated by George Orwell in his prophetic novel, 1984.

As an Oceania-wide organization, SOS has a number of local chapters. For a partial listing, see our contact section.
