Hate mongering from professed Christians...
ok...before the elections somehow I got on a list by Rev. Lou Sheldon -- (just observing the opposition, mind you) -- after a couple of emails I could not stomach to read all of the way through --I dumped the list to my "black list" filter. Haven't seen hide nor hair of it for over 5 months.

Today this escaped the filter and popped into my in-box
(the subject line was about the MA dad opposed to homosexuality) the second post/story was this:

Stop Apologizing to Islam!

We Americans need to get our priorities straight. We are at war with Islam. I want President Bush, Secretary Rice, the media, and the bleeding-heart liberals to stop apologizing to Islam and I want it to stop right now. Islamics are slaughtering people all over the world. Islam has threatened to make our streets “run red with American blood.” A Saudi Islamic cleric gave bin Laden permission to detonate a nuke in a major American city. Enough already!

I am livid. Can they not see that the US has been responsible for 10s of thousands (if not 100s of thousands) of Iraqi deaths, the majority who were just normal citizens? Who is slaughtering who? How will we ever get free of this mess if they -- the "Christian Right" are "calling" in no uncertain terms for war against another religion -- against another group of human beings?

:grr:

1. How revolting!
The "rev" is full of scheiss. Islam, for his info, worships the same god, revers the Old Testement, and thinks Jesus was a prophet. On the whole, followers are nice people who just want to get on with their lives. The fanatics are the same, no matter which religion.

If the "rev" wants to see the Enemy, he should look in the mirror. Then he should go read the Sermon on the Mount...and shut up.

2. I think the comments after the article are more scary
Seriously what kind of cool-aid have they drank and why are they not fighting in Iraq right now. I wish I would post on their site I would put a link so they could fill out the army recruitment form.

3. You know what the funniest thing about all this hate spewing is?
Edited on Tue May-17-05 10:51 PM by noahmijo
They claim to hate them a-rabs and all that jazz yet I always present these types with one simple question:

"Why do you support a man that has his tongue up the ass of the Saudi Royal Family if you hate Muslims so much?"

I never have gotten a straight answer not ONE I always just get the same blank look and the usual dribble about micheal moore this or that and then when I say "I'm not talking about F 9/11, a movie that barely even scratches the freakin surface, I'm talking about documented events such as Marty Miller CEO of Unocal having the fucking Taliban over to his Texas home, shit like that these are the good Christians you so worship and they are having the enemy over for a Christmas bash! yeahhhh!"

BTW another discussion that is great to get into with one of these freepers is that of the Northern Alliance and the fact that these particular "ragheads" have been fighting Bin Laden and his ilk for over a decade and no FAR more about the terror of Islamic Fundamentalim than any yahoo dumbfuck from bumpkinville USA

10. I find it hard to even start to mention things to the very religiouse RW
people work with -- way back when, just stating the fact that the Dixie Chick/s had the right to say what they wanted to say -- and that in America, people could protest about opposite things on either side of a street peacefully, and *that's* what democracy and us being over in Iraq (if we were indeed there to promote democracy) was about, got me icy silence after that lunch for several months.... I guess I became "unpatriotic" in their eyes. oh well.

4. I have looked in at that site
and several other "Christian" sites. I posted to one of their purely political articles by asking what that article had to do with Christ, his Church, love for my neighbor, or anything else that might interest me, as a Christian in their site. Had no relies.

I think its time for liberal Christians to start asking these rightist radicals questions about the Sermon on the Mount. I don't know why being a right winger is supposed to be Christian at all. Jesus thought that the poor should be cared for, for example. Mentioned it right frequently. There is a common ground with fundies, too. Most fundamentalists are pretty much environmentalists. Believe in being good stewards of the earth. Believe that earth is the Lord's.

I'm sorry, but I find it irresponsible to allow right wingers to distort Christianity to their agenda or puposes. Kerry said at the convention that we shouldn't claim that God is on our side, but should hope that we are on God's side. It's more important than politics-it really is a culture war. And they cannot claim that I have to be a RW wing nut to be Christian.

7. And you know what's really odd?
Someone with an agenda a low post count makes an inflammatory post here at DU, it gets plucked out by someone else with an agenda, and held up as "typical" or somehow the epitome of what the discussion is here. Then five minutes of DU bashing ensues, and if there's some luckless liberal dishrag on the show, he or she is forced to disavow DU and every post here, without any of that balance the media pride themselves on so much.

But post after post at Lou Sheldon's site, spewing the most hateful vitriol never gets mentioned. Nobody in the administration is asked if they agree with Mr. Sheldon, no one is bullied into denouncing Mr. Sheldon or his web site and the spirit of antichrist that infests it. Nosiree! All of a sudden, the talking chuckleheads know without having to be told that isolated (or not so isolated) anonymous postings on a web site don't necessarily represent all or even a significant segment of the radical repressive right. Anyone who points it out is treated to the finest staring off into the air you've ever seen. What? Self-proclaimed evangelicals and fundamentalists are bloodthirsty bigots? But that's who we pander to! We can't call that particular spade a spade!

11. "Islam has threatened...."
Lunatic Lou Sheldon said:

“Islam has threatened to make our streets 'run red with American blood'.”

Wow, an entire religion has threatened us. </sarcasm>

Frothing @ the mouth Sheldon needs to be in an insane asylum.

"The economy has turned a corner." — GW Bush

Herbert Hoover = GW Bush

Neither man cared about the Depression their economic policies created.
