Bill Clinton: Iraq Changes Good for Region
By JAN M. OLSEN
Associated Press Writer

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Former President Clinton said Wednesday the political changes in Iraq, including parliamentary elections in January, will help bring stability to the region.

Clinton met with Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and a number of Danish lawmakers during his visit. The former president spoke with reporters before flying to Jordan for a poverty conference.

"The Sunnis and the Shiites, the Kurds and all the various tribes can work out accommodations that will allow them to build a stable society, I think that will be good for Iraq and good for the Middle East," Clinton said at the end of a two-day visit to Denmark.

Clinton cancelled his NY Times subscription during Whitewater and didn't renew it. He needs to do a little reading.

of a Country and continous ravaging by a foreign nation for greedy takeover of the second largest oil source is always good.

Take off the rose colored glasses, Bill!

Is trying to build a bridge to the freepers. Not sure I like how he is doing it but at least he is trying.

Big Dog was the best president ever (despite NAFTA and H1B) but he needs to review things before you says things.

19. i strongly disagree on both counts - "best president ever" ???
Edited on Wed May-18-05 01:14 PM by faithnotgreed
i didnt particularly care for him while he was in office given his often centrist-right governance etc

eta: if the economy hadnt soared while he was in office what would he really have to show for his time in office. its something to be proud of but there is a lot more to govt than that. also would some people love him quite so much if they hadnt had to fight for him because of his own stupid lie about monica

but now he is just wearing out the platform he has and there is no way hes building any bridge - except maybe to his bank because he is a complete sellout to whatever beliefs he may have once had

or perhaps he is hoping bush senior will adopt him (if he hasnt already)

20. Calm down
The presidents I remember are Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2. Who is the best of that set?

I didn't agree with Clinton on some things but hey, liberals can rarely agree exactly anyways. Economy was great, I had a job, didn't like education cuts, but Monica should have been between her and the Clinton family only.

22. i agree with everything youve said here tux... thanks
you said best president ever, not out of the pool of presidents i remember... which is a huge difference but i understand what youre saying and thanks for clarifying

and i didnt mean to be fiery which i dont tend to be on du but clinton raises hackles because he blows according to the wind and we need much better than that from him
such promise wasted but i am mighty grateful that he beat out bush senior

i also jumped in on this topic because i have seen for too long this worship of clinton and i just dont get it. give me jimmy carter as my elder statesman any day

thanks and im sorry i was a little wound up on that

of the Democratic Party. He was bashed out of office by the Regan goons and thoroughly vilified by the media. I applaud him for his work in and out of the White House.

23. Face It
You don't get to be President of the US without supporting crony capitalism, imperialism, and militarism. Even St. Jimmy Carter was busy cutting deals with low life around the world to promote US crony corporate interests.

The best you can say is that the Cons are blatant about it while the Dems do their best to at least appear to be for the "little guy."

It's about time we face the fact that "big government" and "big business" walk hand in hand down the matrimonial aisle of sleaze, no matter who is in power. This is the dirty little secret that rabid partisans on both sides fail to comprehend.

If big government didn't exist, big business would create it.

Iraq and the rest of the ME always was and always will be about big business and competitve advantage.

Freedom on the march indeed...

26. When no WMDs were found
Clinton called into Larry King's show to announce that he too thought there were WMDs in Iraq. This was before the election, and it immediately took the heat off of bush.

I got to thinking about Clinton's motives in making such an obvious political move that benefitted the monkey, and can only arrive at one conclusion: his wife voted for the IWR, and this is not about bush's cover story, it's about Hillary's.

I can't think of another reason for this attitude unless Clinton really believes that this war is good; could be.

Anyway, I'm filing this story under the heading: Hillary '08/CYA

29. Clinton bombed Iraq for years
and imposed all those sanctions.

When he called King--was that the time he advised everyone to move on and buddy-buddied up with Dole.

Like Moore said, "He is the best Republican president we ever had" but he does a great disservice to the Democrats ability to confront the most reactionary and dangerous administration in our times.

28. He's just sticking with his 1998 position
He wanted Saddam gone.

Clinton isn't advocating the war or saying Bush was right.

I will add, however, that Clinton is much more optimistic than I am.

31. We all wanted Saddam gone. But HTF does the anarchy help?
I mean, the way we took the guy down cashed in all of our chips, neutralized our forces for the next decade, drove Iran headlong for the bomb, and created a nice new ground for terrorist recruitment and training. And I think the muslim world doesn't like us as much as they did when they merely hated us.

Crap, if this is the rollout of Hillary 2008, we need to start the Joementum process quickly.

34. Hey, Bill, here's a clue...
The American presence is BAD for the region - with our puppet government, martial law, torture chambers, illegal arrests and detentions, slaughter of innocent civilians - all done in an action that was utterly immoral and only done to plant our boots atop a massive oil reserve.

The above posters are correct - this isn't about cozying up to Bush (although it certainly lets president dipshit off the hook), it's about giving Hillary cover in 2008. This is craven political opportunism, soaked in the blood of our sons and daughters. I wish he'd just fucking GO AWAY.

I just don't know what to think.

First Newt is saying all these nice things about Hillary. I thought his tongue would fall out of his mouth before he'd do that, but the sucker's still anchored. Then he and she are working together. Who's after what?

I was trying to climb out of it, but I'm starting to slide back into ABC.
