What we need..................
What we need is a truly independent Judiciary that is beholden only to the Supreme Court because the judges appointed by only the Supreme Court. Only if all the justices on the court died somehow would the President have Jurisdiction to appoint new justices. It is the only way to keep our over-ambitious Senate and Congress in their proper separation of power. It would also be A LOT quicker because 9 people would be deciding who to appoint rather than a committee of power-hungry congressmen and a stupid/fallible president. So long as there is one surviving supreme court justice the plan is feasible.

2. With all due respect...
That pretty much erases the idea of seperation of power. The judiciary spanks the legislative branch when necessary precisely because they have been placed in their position by said branch.

If all SC judges are in place because of other SC judges, who is going to keep them in check? It sounds like an idea for creating the greatest frat prank in hisotry. Once such a system was in place, the justices would be free to rule that any challenge to their power was unlawful.

It just sounds bad.

3. Nope
That would place FAR too much power in the Judiciary branch. The process now involves appointment from the Executive, approval from the Legislative, before finally being accepted into the Judiciary. Each branch acts as a brake for the other two, giving none too much power (theoretically).

What you are suggesting is akin to letting Congress decide who will be Senators and Representatives, or allowing a departing president to name his successor by decree like a medieval king.

5. frankly, I feel that folks second-guessing the founding fathers are crazy
Not just you, but in general.

They got it right, and when we veer too far from their vision, we get all fucked up.

6. The problem with that is that it cuts out one entire branch
Which leaves us with just the President and the Supreme Court.

7. This is typical.....................
of DU'ers anytime a solution and REAL leadership is put forward all of you shoot it down just cause you don't like it, or you didn't come up with it. No wonder the Democratic Party circling the drain. Nobody agrees on anything. If you all have a better idea to get us out of the filibuster mess we're in right now, just post it and don't shoot down anyone else's idea just because it's better or more popular than yours is. If not, suggest this to your senators as a possible solution.

8. It's not a "solution,"
it's a suggestion, and while it has its merits, it also creates a whole host of problems with it that may or may not be worse than the current problems.

You're welcome to extol your ideas, but responding to other people's critiques in a hostile manner seems a little rectionary.

I'm just sayin'.
