When there is no fear of being called on their lies and no repercussions..
fro their actions, Republicans are free to do whatever the hell they please. Who's going to call them on it? If the Democrats call them on it, it has to be reported in the media. If the media reports it, and then shows the "lie" also, people stay as confused as ever. Nothing ever changes. The "lies" become the status quo. Nothing is ever exposed. The "lies" become like a hydra headed monster.

1. this tangled web of deceit has become the new realityq
to the corporate "Nuzak" media and to the politicians.

It is increasingly absurd and increasingly dangerous. It has to implode disastrously at some point.

5. "Nuzak"??
The conjunction of Nazi and Muzak?

Even if I'm late to that one, Nuzak is definitely now in my lexicon. Thanks!

8. I stole it from other DU threads.

I don't recall the name of the columnist who coined it, but I dig it.

It's actualy "news" and "Muszak" or "elevator news."

6. Won't be anything 'civil' about it
They can't even behave civilly in an election year when the whole world is watching.

3. kentuck, did you read this?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/theblog/archive/al-franken/what-in-godas-name-is-g_1221.html

Just when I thought I couldn't get any more infuriated with the media, this comes along. The "money quotes" start with the 6th paragraph.

Lookey, lookey, the high-priced-whores that pose in their pink tutus as Washington Insiders are less informed than the people on this board.

Words are not enough to express my contempt for these lazy ruling class sops.

4. I read that and I was not surprised...
Why don't they know this information when almost all of us know about it? Aren't they supposed to be the "news" media??

7. Nothing ever changes.
I see no reason to believe that any story or lie is going to catch up with these guys anytime soon. They've successfully created a system where they can do whatever they want.

We may take heart that this memo or that new book is going to turn the tide (how many times have we heard that phrase?) but the truth is that they have weathered even the most damning revelations about their obscene misdeeds. In fact, they are right now successfully forcing two extreme jurists and one nutcase ambassador down the throats of the senate, even though the news of the past couple of weeks would have buckled the knees of any other administration.

The sheer volume and degree of outrages over the last five years is, to me, not reason for encouragement, but reason to be frightened....they've disabled our ability to talk about right and wrong and do something about it.

9. You nailed it.
There is no longer any "political" option.

That means the the rest of the world is going to take us out without the majority of 'Murikans knowing what hit them. Sound familiar? (it will be economic this time -- a simple change from dollars to euros in the oil trade will do it)

It's my guess that this is what "conservatives" like Rush Limbaugh and Grover Norquist have been (sexually) yearning for all these years. They long to see the masses starving in the streets like so many maggots squirming in their death squiggles searching for another corpse to feed on.

Yeah, I think it's that bad, and I think that Limbaugh and Norquist are that Evil.

10. America will be like Fallujah...
Before this bunch gets through. Corpses will be lying in the streets and dogs will be cleaning their bones...

11. Well, weren't the aged dying in the streets
Edited on Fri May-20-05 01:09 AM by gumby
before Social Security?

Isn't that what Bush is spending his "political capital" on trying to eliminate?

So, maybe you're correct. After Bush gets done, old people will once again be dying in the streets.

Hungry dogs eat what they find.

edit: my earlier post was an "interpretation" of Limbaugh and Norquist thinking.

12. I've sat amazed watching the media...
telling obvious lies and never get called on it. Don't remember which Repub it was, but he was blaming the line "blowing up the Senate" on the Dems. I'm sitting here knowing it was Trent Lott who said that during Bush's last term. He never got called on that lie, left uninformed viewer's believing the Dems are the ones who made this threat. UnBElievable!

Soylent Green...:scared:
