Cunningham doesn't represent me on issues

By: Gail Chatfield - Commentary

Francine Busby, who challenged Randy "Duke" Cunningham in last November's election, has announced that she will run again in 2006. By a show of voters who attended her announcement dinner, she has plenty of support to unseat the eight-term congressional representative.

After researching Cunningham's voting record, I found that he does not represent me on issues of women's rights, health care, veterans benefits, education or the environment.

And he gave $6,000 to ethics-impaired Tom DeLay's legal fund.

Our borders are still not secure, and drugs continue to come into this country, yet Cunningham voted against adding 750 immigration and Border Patrol agents to those already funded in HR 1268. Aren't we worried about terrorists entering this country?

Cunningham voted for an energy bill that would protect oil companies from lawsuits over the water-polluting gas additive MTBE and that would limit California's ability to block new oil and gas drilling off our coast.

2. A candidate coming back for a second run is good but this
is still a district heavily rigged in cunningham's favor. He got 64% in 2002 and 58% in 2004.
