Hey, we are taking part in what we speak out against. Social authoritarianism isn't just a right wing problem. I got news for you. Discussions that are about tough issues such as late term abortions will always inspire flame. That type of flame is the very freedom we ought to encourage! It is the blood of our democracy.

1. as long as the flames focus on the issues and not the poster ...
i agree with you completely !!!

and in the same context, i think attacks on elected Democrats should focus on the issues and not be personal attacks ...

for example, i think it's OK to say candidate X has a hideous view on issue Y because it will lead to the deaths of millions of civilians ... i don't think it's OK to call candidate X a murderer ...

2. My topic was on late term abortions, a specific topic with
a hypothetical situation. I can't believe it. On DU of all places!

3. Do you have any facts & figures on late term abortions?
They are the rarity and are used only for abortions where the mother or the child cannot survive the birthing process.

Why emotional hysteria rather than medical fact has ruled the public opinion is stupid.

8. yup ...
the quality of discourse does get a bit frustrating at times ...

instead of discussing issues at face value, many are very quick to ascribe sinister motives to your posts and attack you personally rather than addressing their views on the issues that get raised ...

and what's the answer to this problem of most, if not all online forums, ??? do you really want to know ??? ... well, i have no idea ... let me know if you figure it out ...

6. The 1 and only late abortion I know of was when
the scans revealed the fetus had only one heart chamber and would never survive the birthing process. To force the woman to carry the child knowing her delivery would mean its death, is cruelty to both of them.

7. The other case as presented in Congress thru testimony
was a spina bifida fetus that would have no chance of surviving after the birthing process.

This hysteria about women running to the doctors for late term abortions is garbage and totally untrue. Or come up with stats to show otherwise.

9. the hypothetical thread about 3rd trimester abortion where you
kinda ignored how this doesn't ever happen in this country for no particular (medical) reason?
where you say DUers would call the fetus a piece of meat?

try having a discussion that's a bit more reality based, and leave out the RW talking points and you might have something to bitch about.
