UNSUSTAINABLE! Our new one word talking point. Say it loud
Edited on Mon May-23-05 10:09 AM by rainy
Say it often. Most of the Republican policies are unsustainable. For instance:

1. Never ending wars of preemption. We are not enlisting enough soldiers for this level of occupation.

2. Once we get all of the oil, and think we have won, the oil will eventually run out and then we will have no way of launching all of those glorious weapons we have created.

3. The filth we fill our air, land and waterway will eventually kill us. At this pace we are already sick from all of the pollution.

4. National Debt.

5. The media will fall out of grace with the people if they continue to carry on like they do now.

I say we hammer home that a better world is possible, the Republican way is unsustainable.

1. I always look for talking points
that will let me discuss politics with my father and mother. They're Eisenhower Republicans, but Dad always said he promised himself he'd vote for the best man, not party line. In the past 20 years though, he's been sucked in by Limbaugh and doesn't see outside of that little box.

It's a rare thing lately to find a topic or angle that I believe in and he also understands. UNSUSTAINABILITY might be it. It resonates with the ideas of responsibility, quality of life, and legacy. As much as I can believe in that, those were oddly enough the hallmarks of the conservatives he used to admire.

He doesn't quite see how they've hijacked his party. Maybe this is a tack that will clear the cobwebs a little.

Brava, Rainy!
