WH Is Acting Through FEAR (not Arrogance) This Important to Remember
The best thing that Karl Rove has going for him right now is *'s utter stupidity. The man is too foolish to understand what a precariously built house of cards he is living in, and that all it will take is one little Alice shouting "You are all just a deck of cards!" to bring the whole thing down around his head. So * gets on national TV and smirks his foolish chimp grin and says "I got a mandate!" and acts like he is as happy as a clam.

Check out the video images of Poppy's face from last fall when the clan went to visit Bill Clinton on the opening of his library and you will see a very different picture. Papa Bush is smart. He knew that the election had been stolen. He knew that the war in Iraq was going very badly. He knew that the only thing standing between his boy and impeachment was a GOP Congress. His face said it all. He was scared shitless. No wonder he has been clinging to Big Bill, a Democrat who has been vocal in his call for forgiveness and unity.

The recent nuclear meltdown in the Senate is not the act of a confident administration. At best, the WH has been defeated in Iraq, defeated on SS and now must prove that it can do something, ANYTHING, so it is forcing Bill Frist to act like a horse's ass and abolish Senate tradition so that the WH can appoint some judges to make the base happy and claim a political victory. I say "at best", because I suspect that even the judicial appointments are an act of desperation. Judge "Enron" Owens 5th Circuit Court Appointment may well be intended to protect the WH and * from subpoenas from the upcoming criminal prosecutions of Lay and Skilling and the Enron civil case. Worse yet, she may be part of a secret deal to overturn criminal convictions of Lay and Skilling on appeal in exchange for the two men aggreeing not to implicate the administration in Enron's crimes.

There are other signs of fear.Look at the way they attack any journalist who dares to mention certain taboo topics. Why are they so afraid of the press, when they control such a large part of the press? Their side of the story is going to get told. There must be something pretty damning out there that cant get spun away by the CNN pundits, so they have to make sure that no one is doing investigative reporting.

Look at how many rats have jumped the sinking ship. And look at the incestuous way they are filling the openings. Pretty soon they will be nominating people like Laura Bush's hair stylist to cabinet positions.. The administration pretends that this is because it wants to have people who are all on the same wavelength, but this is bullshit. They NEED to have people they can trust to keep their mouths shut about all the dirty, illegal secrets which are contained within the documents that anyone working within the administration will see. They cant bring new blood on board. It is too risky. No wonder they are thinking about running Cheney in 2008.

It is natural in our culture for men to hide fear behind arrogance. Fear implies weakness, and weakness implies vulnerbility which others may exploit. The administration is much more vulnerable now than people realize. If people are comparing * and Co. to the Sith in the latest Star Wars movie (the embodiment of evil), what does that say about * and Co.? With * and Co.'s ratings in the toilet, what does that say about * and Co.? It says that as long as they do absolutely NOTHING to piss off the average American, the average American will stew quietly. But all it will take is one thing--a draft, a big downturn in the economy,a rise in interest rates, a crusading speaker or journalist who catches the public interest--and even the GOP controlled Congress and the Gonzales controlled Justice Department wont be able to control the tide of public opinion.

Bottom line is speak out loudly and often about the adminstration and its crimes, because people really are paying attention. Soon it will be 2006. Karl Rove is promising the GOP that through a combination of gerrymandering, election fraud of massive proportions and mobilization of the base, he can save their majority. But I am not so sure about that, and Congress is the weakest link right now for the WH, so speak out to Congresspeople who may be having doubts too.

Remember, the administration and Karl Rove are not all powerful. Neither was Hilter. They are scared little boys who try to protect themselves by becoming the bullies they fear. And they have overstepped themselves, weaving a web of lies and crimes so vast that there is no way in hell that they will not be caught, it is just a matter of when.

3. "Desperate people will do desperate things."
This is what frightens me. They've got almost nothing to lose at this point. They may believe that they need to stay in power just to stay out of prison. What won't people in that position be willing to do?

5. Fear and Denial, Insecurity and Cognitive Dissonance.
Very correct in most of your analysis, but I would add just one or two things. First, Bush is not stupid, but he so much a narcissist that he is incapable of seeing anything negative or anything that contradicts his self-love. He is willfully ignorant not because he is incapable of taking in information, but rather he thinks he knows all he needs to know and is personally insulted by the very notion that he needs to "learn" anything. After all, who are we, or they, who is anyone, to tell George Bush anything?

Second, I would disagree that they are knowingly fearful, they are rather insecure. Most bullies are. They act out of fear at all times, but they are usually unaware of their fear, their bullying is their method of keeping up the denial of their insecurity and fear. Such people do not crack when confronted, they rather get mroe vicious and more depserate.

9. 2000 was a coup
the only branch of government they have not sown up lock, stock and barrel is the lower-level federal judiciary. Criminal proceedings are all they have to fear.

This is also, as you point out with "Enron" Owens, why they need the "nookyooler" option.

10. fear and arrogance need not be mutually exclusive
More likely, they are so arrogant that they would be unwilling to recognize and admit that they were afraid. The greater their level of unrecognized fear, the greater the level of desperation in combatting it.

11. My thoughts exactly
I think they are too ignorant to even know they are scared shitless. Does a deer caught in head lights really know he's afraid, or is he/she just stunned?

13. Careful how you look at it.
Fear is not always a sign of weakness. When used improperly, it can lead to irrational panic. When used properly, however, it can be possibly the most powerful motivator imaginable.

For instance, look at 1988. George Bush Sr., vice president under Ronald Reagan and Iran Contra conspiritor, was well behind in presidential polls compared to Micheal Dukakis. In his fear, Bush Sr.
was motivated to launch deceitful smear ads. And in the end, he won in a landslide.

Similarly, Bill Clinton was smeared every step of the way throughout his presidency. But he always responded or had one of his people respond to the smears. Why would he care if he wasn't afraid. But his
fear paid off; he ended up a pretty popular president.

18. None of this makes any difference.
Diebold and Triad decide who wins elections. That most Dems were so wussy on the outright theft of Ohio does not bode well.

By contrast, look at the Rethugs in WA state--they don't concede a thing, and nothing was wrong with our process except the usual administrative screwups. THREE gubernatorial recounts came out the same within 0.01% error. That means the negative vote capacity of the Diebold softwar was not invoked. Scattered attempts at vote suppression which were quickly thwarted. The optiscan tapes were not torn up and redone as they were in Florida. The only big Rethug win was a successful cheat for Rossi on the Snohomish ES&S machines which could not be recounted.

And yet they are successfully hammering on their message that our state is a pit of fraudulent depravity, while the Dems do NOTHING about Ohio and Florida. Unless we do, there will only be more and worse defeats in 2006 no matter how low the approval ratings go.

these atrocities. The next American civil war will make the first look like a child's game. Prepare for hell, it's on the way....unless Bush Co and the Religious Right "go away".

25. Nail on the head
eridani
To overcome the vote hacking it will take either massive popular unrest, or a small handful of dedicated journalists who come up with some solid evidence of tampering that is not statistically based. The statistical evidence of exit polls vs. final tally is the proof, but I fear that few without upper division math training understand or believe statistics, and no one listens to math nerds. Massive popular unrest, the likely vehicle to change, will happen only if things get far worse than they currently are; and that is not a pretty picture.

20. Good article, albeit a bit optimistic.
The article implies that BFEE will one day be held accountable for its actions. I doubt that will be the case because our system is not designed to bring justice to the powerful.

Put another way: You can't have an empire if the people at the top have to appologise for their actions.

Bush will grow old and die in his sleep surrounded by friends and loved ones. Conservatives will revise history to make him look like a hero rather than the fool he was.

Perhaps in 2050 some future Oliver Stone director will make a movie about this Administration that comes close to the truth; But that is about as close to justice this country will ever get.

26. Exactly right! They are afraid of everything that does not conform
to them and their "moral" lifestyles.

They are afraid of:

Liberals
Gays
Gay marriage
Unions
Right to Choose
Right to Vote
the Constitution

Anything else?

24. Excellent Post!
Rove & Dubya & Cheney are just a bit too cocky in their arrogance for their own good. They push things too far-like Shiavo and Social Security and then they are surprised and pissed when they see the backlash. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next major error that they make that will send them over into the abyss. There will be no saving face and no mercy from the public then. :bounce:
