Good News: Majority of Americans think abortion be between doc and woman.
Edited on Mon May-23-05 11:41 AM by dhinojosa
NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll conducted by the polling organizations of Peter Hart (D) and Bill McInturff (R). May 12-16, 2005. N=1,005 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3.1.

"Which of the following best represents your views about abortion? The choice on abortion should be left up to the woman and her doctor. Abortion should be legal only in cases in which pregnancy results from rape or incest or when the life of the woman is at risk. OR, Abortion should be illegal in all circumstances."

Date: 5/12-16/05

Woman and Doctor 55%
Rape, Incest, Life of Woman 29%
Always Illegal 14%
Unsure 2%

It's those 14% uneducated that I worry about because I think they have our government's ear. I hear that many democrats want to "go to the middle" on abortion. They may not know it, but it seems by this poll it is the wrong thing to do.

I think Bush should let doctors express their love for these women. ;)

Ooops: forgot the link....

1. A question for the 14%
If abortion was made illegal, what should the punishment be?

3. The whole abortion debate is

a bunch of noise and smoke. The majority of women in the US would NOT want Roe v. Wade overturned. The entire national debate is emotion based. Same as gay marriage. Gays/lesbians WILL one day be allowed to marry, and rightly so. In the meantime, there are things like a fucking moronic war and economic problems that are a bit more important to deal with.

Spelling edit.

6. Really?
Thank you for handing my womb to the zealots.
I happen to be very fond of it and it's VERY important to me.

7. Maybe I didn't state my point well enough.
If radicals get their way, and overturn Roe v. Wade, don't you believe there would be an uproar amongst women in this nation ?
Don't you think that BEFORE the radical right had a chance to overturn Roe v. Wade, there would be a bitter, and victorious for our side, battle before the SCOTUS ?

Stop acting like a victim. Victims never win.

9. Stop acting like a victim?
Nice insult. I guess I should have expected that from you.

12. Telling me to stop acting like a victim is NOT an insult?
Is that what you tell gay people when they fight for their equal rights?

13. No, as a matter of fact, I don't.
Do you have any more incorrectly pre-concieved notions about me that you want cleared up ?

I'm sorry if you felt insulted.

15. I just noticed your response.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
If you didn't mean it as an insult, I won't take it as one.
I live in a red state and I drive by right to life billboards on my way to work everyday so I'm really over-sensitive about the issue-but that's not an excuse.
I judged you unfairly and I'm sorry.
When I saw your user name I mistook you for another Du'er with a similar name, and for that I'm also sorry. :banghead:
When I read your post I thought you were saying that reproductive rights were not an important issue, I'm guessing that wasn't what you were inferring.
Again, my apologies for my behaviour.

5. They should have asked these people
if it was a decisive factor in how they voted in the last election or not. I suspect it might have been for only a minority of people. Unless we start voting for what we believe in, regardless of the person, we're going to lose a lot of majority-approved rights.

8. Since when does the beady-eyed Moron and his Cabal...
...of fundies and corprats give a rat's ass what the majority of Americans think?

If THEY want abortion outlawed, it will be outlawed. This isn't a Democracy anymore, remember. It's a fascist dictatorship and this is the American Taliban we're dealing with.

Sorry for my bitter cynicism but with all I've seen in the last 5-6 years...and no opposition party except a PM from the UK, I just can't help it.
