2. Great! Hope you'll do a running commentary "for the cube rats" and

for others who can't watch it.

Byrd has been a true American patriot and heroic in his willingness to speak truth to ill-gotten power. He'll filibuster for days if they'll let him!

4. He is doing a great job of shaming the republicans in general
...and Senator Bill Frist specifically by his nostalgia comments. I love it.

5. He speaks of "faith"
Edited on Mon May-23-05 02:17 PM by longship
He doesn't always agree with court decisions on religious faith. The First Amendment is too often focussed on the first clause in the amendment, and not the second clause which guarantees people's right to practice their religion.

Invoking Engel v. Duvall (sp?), 1962 SCOTUS Prayer in Schools case.

6. A power-hungry Executive
Edited on Mon May-23-05 02:23 PM by longship
Criticizing overheated partisan rhetoric and a

Any cabbage-head falling off a turnip truck...

"I call it the turnip truck option, not the nuclear option, not the Constitutional option."

The nuclear option has existed for a long time. Not wanting to invoke such a suicidal option.

Invoking history of Senate rules.

7. "Power hungry executive...."
Edited on Mon May-23-05 02:22 PM by magnolia
He started out very slow, recalling history...very moving. I few times he looked like he would cry. He sounded like he was giving a eulogy to our dying democracy.

He's picked up steam now...

Why can't we muster unity now?

10. Fixation on nuclear options...
underscores the number of *real* problems.

Medical care!

Poverty rising. 12.4% people below poverty rate. Infant mortality rate.

"We seek solutions to none... None... NONE! of these problems."

Byrd's on a roll.

laugh before that comment.

I wish we could make every American sit and watch this speech.
