Trent Lott Goes After Dobson
Remember the hullabaloo when Senator Ken Salazar called Focus on the Family and James "SpongeDob" Dobson "un-Christian"? Well, it turns out those may not have been partisan sentiments, as was alleged by Salazar critics. Take a look at what Republican Senator Trent Lott had to say:

"James Dobson: Who does he think he is, questioning my conservative credentials?" Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., said in an interview. Dobson, head of the conservative group Focus on the Family, criticized Lott for his efforts to forge a compromise in the fight over the judges. Lott is still angry. "Some of his language and conduct is quite un-Christian, and I don't appreciate it," the senator said.

It's one thing to have a Democratic senator making those comments, because conservatives and Dobson supporters can write it off to partisan bickering. But when Lott says it, the criticism stings a little bit more.

Dobson has been attacking anyone he can point his mouth at, and it sounds like he continues to make enemies that might normally have been friendly to some of his causes (including President Bush). Is he going too far? Coincidentally, MSNBC also has an interesting read today on the whole issue of Evangelicals and political involvement.

1. When KKK Lott calls Dobson un-christian
It's truly a statement about how extreme the religious right is in the country.

2. I hope the Republican party gets torn in half
I have said all along that I truly don't believe that Bu$h is a Republican, he is a Fascist extremist. At some point, the moderate Republicans are going to say they have had enough and they are going distance themselves. It could happen when the 2006 campaigning starts up or when 2008 starts up.

I have a feeling that it is starting right now. The Nuclear Option/Filibuster compromise was done by the Centrists and I thin McCain successful pulled the rug our from under Frist. The battle between the Centrists and the Wing Nuts has started.

10. Most of the "transubstantiation" stuff
was the result of Paul of Tarsus blending Jesus with the pagan god Mithras. He hijacked christianity and turned Jesus into a supernatural being and it's been down hill for christianity ever since.

9. Like McCain, Lott is reading the political currents and playing moderate
because polls show that Americans don't like the fundie wackos intruding into their lives. It's easy to still be in the pockets of the corporate profiteers who actually run the country without kissing up quite so publically as Frist to the extreme fundie nutjobs. It's politics and posturing. Plus, by this time a lot of the GOP is no doubt fed up with the incessant demands and arrogance of the fundie extremists and are genuinely pleased at not having to play quite so nice with them any more.
