HELP! Been sick in bed with the flu all day - what the hell happened?
Sorry. I am OUT OF IT. Really sick, and just creeping out of bed for the first time today. Can someone give me a brief, tiny description of this "filibuster deal" and how the arrangement is any different than if none of this debate had ever even happened? I have no idea what happened today, other than I spent a lot of time hunched over the toilet praying for death. :puke:

Thanks...

This msnbc article describes it all pretty well.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7957783/

Basically, 7 moderate repubs and 7 moderate dems got together and worked out a "deal" that saves the filibuster (with a promise of restricted use of it) in exchange for votes on Owen, Brown & Pryor. Along with that is an agreement to consult on potential nominees to try to get the admin to offer more acceptable nominees.

There are no guarantees about the vote outcomes for Owen, Brown or Pryor.

There's all kinds of speculation about who won and who lost and what this means to various players.

So sorry to hear you've been sick all day! I hope you are doing better now...

3. Thank you Housewolf!
Is this only applicable to the 109th Congress, like a "temporary deal for now" kind of thing? Do you know if it's null and void after the 2006 elections?

5. I believe that is the case, yes -
only good for the rest of this session

So we have to work REALLY hard to wrest back some of those seats we've lost in the past couple of elections
