IMO... Frist is now defining "extraordinary circumstances"
Edited on Tue May-24-05 09:05 AM by halobeam
on CSPAN right now....

"if they (democrats) behave by abusing fillibusters, 1 out of 3 or 4, for example, then I'll have to apply the "Constitutional Option"... will remain on the table, but only as a last resort"

Oh yeah... this is going to go well

5. This is why I was against compromise
You can't form gentlemens' agreements with junkyard dogs. These are Moral Majority "stealth candidates" who got where they are by lying and cheating in the name of their god. They have no honor. They will honor no agreements. They will turn around and stab all those compromisers in the back at the first opportunity, and my guess is that opportunity is quickly approaching.

This was a stupid thing to do, accepting a number of the unacceptable in the hope of keeping peace. There is no peace. This is war against the amoral, the illegal, and the anti American.

6. The republican majority only has as many teeth as John McCain lets them
And last night he consolidated a lot of power. Frist cant shove anything down the throat of the senate anymore, as much as he is claiming that he can just magically bring the issue up again.

Moderate Republicans are NOT in lockstep with him anymore.

10. Delay still controls party purse strings
and trust me, even McCain will purr like a contented pussycat if his reelection is threatened.

You can NOT deal with those men. Not now. Not ever.

11. McCain, in the final estimation, always does his master's bidding
Just as he did last night.

21. No, what they want goes well beyond a handful of appellate court judges
They want hard-core Roe V Wade overturning Supreme Court justices. Now Democrats and a handful of moderate pro-choice Republicans now WONT ALLOW THAT.

And if they TRY, we can FILIBUSTER!

What they wanted was to blow up the Senate so they could push though whoever they wanted. We didn't allow that to happen. THEY LOST.

15. McCain is toast - - the far right control the Republican primary process
He's never going to win the nomination. He already hacked them off by talking about compromise, brokering it put the nail in his coffin.

There are seven Republicans in this compromise.

The Republicans have fifty five Senators.

All that needs to happen for the nuclear option to pass is that two of these Republicans drop out. And since the standard for when the Democrats are allowed to filibuster is set so high - - and since currently, the majority of Americans believe that conservative judges are better than liberal ones, and that Smirk will pick the right kind of Supreme Court nominee, there is every chance that two or more of them will side with Frist next time the nuclear option is bandied about.

This is far from over.

7. Will the 7 Senators stand for this?
He may call for the Nuke Option again, but I doubt the 7 Rep senators who made this deal will back him up.

16. That's what everyone is missing.
It's not a leadership agreement. Those 14 Senators have THEIR credibility on the line.

8. Now Sen Jeff Sessions is saying the same thing....
The confirmation of their right to threatend "constitutional option" if we fillibuster for X number of times. They are re defining this agreement, (as ridden with loopholes as it is).

12. Latest printout of repub. terminology distributed:
No longer say Nuclear Option, replace with Constitutional Option..

Public, so stupid, they'll think it's something else.

BTW, didn't Tweety use this term last night before they did? Guess he got the memo along with them.
