The U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs held a hearing on the Oil-for-Food investigation May 17. At this hearing, George Galloway gave explosive testimony. Despite this, the Senate Committee had him listed at their official website as "did not make a statement." This was later changed to "Mr Galloway did not submit written statement."
Radio News America contacted his office as to the veracity of the Senate claim and received the following reply from Mr. Ron McKay, Respect's press officer:
"We did not know it was custom to submit a written statement..."
and Mr.McKay goes on to state:
"...we are now going to submit GG's speech, as well as the demand that we are allowed to examine the documentation."
In fact, Mr. McKay states that Mr. Galloway wasn't "even properly invited to the hearing and the committee made its conclusions before, belatedly, issuing an invite through the media."
Mr. McKay further asserts that "the English-language documents are frauds. They are US translations of what appear to be - although they were almost totally obscured by the 'translations' in the photocopying - Arabic documents. But these grey smudges behind the US ones look like photocopies which, if they are, will be utterly discredited."
