Bush said: "....to kind of catapult the propaganda"

From a story regarding yesterday's dog and pony show:

Or, as he put it in a revealing ad-lib yesterday while talking about Social Security: "See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

I hope this catches on. He actually confesses to pushing propaganda.

Now what did Karl say? I've got to . . something mount . . the propaganda . .mount, catamount, yeah, catamount, that's it - I have to catamount the propaganda . . .no, that doesn't seem right . . I have to to . . cata . . cata . .. catapult! that's it! - I have to catapult the propaganda!"

Now can I ride my bike?

70. Bush asks American public to trust him (January 30 2003)
President Bush failed to answer basic questions about the war that many in the United States and abroad are asking, writes Marian Wilkinson.

President George Bush has now laid out his case for a pre-emptive war with Iraq.
It is one he hopes will be guided by God.

His aim is to deliver God's gift of liberty to the Iraqi people and strike a blow against terrorism. It was the purest expression of the Bush doctrine.
(...)
Mr Bush argued that September 11 ended the option of containment. "Chemical agents, lethal viruses and shadowy terrorist networks are not easily contained," he said. "Imagine those 19 hijackers with other weapons and other planes - this time armed by Saddam Hussein."
(...)
He presented the war as a moral challenge to the civilised world. Saddam Hussein was the personification of "evil", a torturer who raped women, cut out tongues and was poised to infect millions with biological weapons.

Well, I think he kind of did "describe" (in parts) himself with this one, didn't he? Also...

>He presented the war as a moral challenge to the civilised world.<

The civilized world now considers Bush (#1 Most Dangerous Terrorist) a lot more "evil" than Saddam Hussein ever was...

>Saddam Hussein was the personification of "evil", a torturer who raped women, cut out tongues and was poised to infect millions with biological weapons.<

To the civilized world, * IS a torturer who "rapes" men (Abu Graib), who forces innocent civilians "to dig their own graves," and is poised to infect millions with illegal weapons (including Depleted Uranium), even troops on the ground!

Now, a personal savings account would be a part of a Social Security retirement system. It would be a part of what you would have to retire when you reach retirement age. As you -- as I mentioned to you earlier, we're going to redesign the current system. If you've retired, you don't have anything to worry about -- third time I've said that. (Laughter.) I'll probably say it three more times. See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda. (Applause.)

92. Reading that, I see that he said just what he meant to.
Catapults were not designed to bypass opposition. A catapult (trebuchet, actually) will hurl the same weight shot to hit the same exact target every time. Simple physics. It was used to batter down walls, by hittin the same point on the wall repeatedly.

These concepts being beyond the chimp, he obviously heard Rove talking about battering down the opposition in the same way, and repeated it. He's just too dumb to know you never use the word 'propaganda' in the propaganda itself.

21. I suspect "catapult the propaganda"
was a bit of jargon someone in the inner sanctum (uh, Karl, I'm looking in your direction) coined to use only in internal meetings. They say it to each other all the time as shorthand to describe whatever -- SS tour, Armstrong Williams, pressers. Georgie just heard it often enough that he didn't have the sense to know when it's OK to use.

Sort of like kids overhearing their parents talk nasty about a neighbor, and next time the kid sees the neighbor -- whoops! -- out pops the wrong sentence.

87. Letting that phrase slip gives us the opportunity --
no, the obligation -- to use that term. Whenever we get the talking points thrown at us, we need to respond with, "It doesn't matter how much propaganda you catapult, the American people are still more concerned with long-term solvency of the SS" (or whatever the topic is).

Hell, if they're going to drop coins like this while they're digging in their pockets for dollars, we need to pick them up and throw them in the kitty.

22. I would not carry this very far
See, you know he is not very smart, so catapult was not the word he wanted. What he meant is that "he is spreading truth, but he needs to repeat it over and over and over again so it can 'jump over' (or be flung over) all of the propaganda that is being spewed out by the Democrats and the liberal media." In his mind he is catapulting the truth over the propaganda.

Although it does make great fodder for an editorial cartoon showing JR Bush firing his propaganda from a catapult.

31. that's how I interpreted it as well
Granted, it's a tortured way to phrase it, but I don't think he intended to imply that he was catapulting his own propaganda (which, by the way, he certainly does), but catapulting his own dipshitted message over the propaganda of others.

Given that the entire US media is now a corporate propaganda arm of the administration, it's laughable that he'd whine about the "propaganda" that's keeping the public from accepting a scheme that is little more than his usual looting and plundering from the public pocket.

72. because he said it wrong
he said he was repeating the truth, and "catapulting the propaganda" when he meant to say something like "leapfrogging the propaganda". Of course, the idea that Bush is telling the truth is pure propaganda, but he simply did not say "spreading" or "flinging" he said "catapulting" a made-up word without a clear meaning. You do not call your statements simultaneously both truth and propaganda. It just makes no sense.

As the old saying goes, for a politician, a 'gaffe' is when he accidentally tells the truth.

Bush very often "misspeaks" in a way that reveals the truth.

I'm sure he can easily claim he just got his words mixed up, but yet this jumbled syntax briefly lets us peer into his mind.

before I try to start hammering it home. This quote: "See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."
Is going to make people go "huh? What did he say? What was he trying to say?" If we run with it, it looks like we need to twist his meaning just because he used the word propaganda in a sentence.

I am still using this: "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
George W Bush, accidentally telling the truth
as the signature for all the email I send, because it was pretty clear what he said, and even if he did not mean to say it, it rings pretty true with the way he runs his administration.

That he spreads propaganda rings very true to, but his statement is not a clear way of saying that he does. If he had said "See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the propaganda to sink in ..." then I would run with that, but it is not clear that he said that to a neutral observer, or even to this partisan observer. He said he was repeating the truth over and over and over again, and then said something unclear about catapults, which makes sense if the propaganda is a castle wall and JR is flinging the truth over it with a catapult.

Anyway, I am not going to pick it up, because I doubt if I can run down the field and spike it in the endzone. The red challenge flag will come out and the officials will say that "the ground caused the fumble".

With Rove everything is a facade. Make everything look and sound good.....screw the rest. He feels that Americans are stupid. Not so. We are trusting. We've come to believe that our leaders naturally do what's best for our country.
Rove views the common man and woman exactly the same as Abramoff viewed the Native Americans he stole from.
They think we're useful idiots.......our only function in life is to make them rich.

38. get the man some new material! remember this quote? Nov 2001
"I asked them the other day, would it be okay if I cut a 30-minute tape, a piece of propaganda, no questions, just here -- here it is, here's 30 minutes of me talking. Please run it, not only across your airwaves but run it internationally, if you don't mind. I've got something to say about the conflict and our fight against evil. They said, no, they're not going to do that. If I'm going to get on the news, they've got to ask me questions."

I wonder if Bush knows what is really meant by the word "propaganda." He's so stupid, he probably thinks it's a good thing.

40. Kinda like a certain ruler from the last century...
"...All propaganda must be popular and its intellectual level must be adjusted to the most limited intelligence among those it is addressed to. Consequently, the greater the mass it is intended to reach, the lower its purely intellectual level will have to be....

...The receptivity of the great masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan...."

Sir, it's not working. Oh, it's catching on alright. My ex-republican friends are calling me now and they're:

Mad over the war, money, Bush, craziness.
And, they're in "fear" of WAR! <---- Aw ha! Now they're getting it. Now the very fear this Adm used is turning.

The propaganda machine is loosing steam. Did anyone notice Faux's ratings recently.

They reap what they sow, sadly, sadly so.

He's done it before too. They tell him the reasons for things "George, you have to repeat things over and over so we can propogate the propoganda". He really is fucking brain dead and doesn't realize that you're really not supposed to tell people that that's what you're doing.

This is not the first time he's done this either.

He is pretending that he is a victim.

He insists that he is speaking the truth, just that we are too dumb or uninetersted to get it.

"for the truth to sink in"

He is saying his truths can't be sold to the public (for whatever reason) unless he repeats them over and over.
