Did Ted Stevens vote present on Owens?
That's what the senate website says but news articles don't.

1. I think he paired votes with Inouye.
For whatever reason, Inouye wasn't there. Often, Senators will arrange for vote arrangements that way.

2. According to our local news in Anchorage, he voted..
And he would NEVER vote against Bush or the administration --EVER :puke:

Lisa Murkowski on the other hand, claimed that she was struggling with the issue. However, she timed her flight from Anchorage back to DC so that she wouldn't make it back in time to vote..

After the gang of 14 made news, she claimed that she would have stood proudly with them. :eyes:

In any event.. Never has there been a candidate like her who was DOWN in the polls for the entire time polls were conducted in the past U.S. senate campaign up here -- but who still wound up winning. The polls were announced the first Tuesday of each month for over a year. Tony Knowles (D) always kicked her ass.

She was never favored here because Alaskans didn't like her father "appointing" her to his seat. The nepotism issue bothered people of all political persuasions.

But....... when Ted Stevens came on the air in the last month of the campaign pleading to Alaskans that he would lose his seniority if she was elected.. (He lied btw as residents learned later he would have lost the same seats had either of them won)... too many narrow-minded people were roped into believing him.

Remember.. He's won the top "pork award" for years and years, so he is very LOVED here. He told Alaskans that he'd lose everything if Tony was elected. He only came out with the round-the-clock commericals claiming this at the end of the campaign; probably because it gave Democrats less time to prove his allegations were dead wrong.

And so the extremely popular Democrat who maintained a lead in every poll, who received more donations than her, and who should have won easily.. lost to an old dinosaur who lied like Hell to ensure she'd get in.

Ted (known by Alaskans as "Uncle Ted" because of the massive pork he's been able to bring home) is getting up there in age!! :o If you've noticed, he's stumbling terribly when trying to even piece together a sentence.

Yet he says he'll run again next year. If for some reason his health issues prevent that, Tony Knowles will be a shoe in. You can count on it.

and that he runs again. Did you read that article last week where Ted was claiming that the nuclear option was his idea. Good one, Ted, you jerk. Lisa was sure cagey about the whole thing, wasn't she? We'll see how she does with Bolton. She told me that at first she was inclined to approve the nom, but after she heard how he treated his subordinates she had second thoughts. We'll see......
