Bush pledges $50 million in aid for Palestinians
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&u=/nm/20050526/pl_nm/mideast_abbas_dc_20

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
President Bush pledged $50 million in aid for the Palestinians Thursday and urged Israel to stop settlement expansion and other activities that could prejudice negotiations on a final peace deal.

Standing with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at a White House Rose Garden news conference, Bush also said Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice would travel to Jerusalem and Ramallah to consult with Israeli and Palestinian leaders about Israel's planned August pullout from the
Gaza Strip.

Abbas, the first Palestinian president to visit Washington since peace talks collapsed in 2000, complained of Israeli settlement activity and said "time is becoming our greatest enemy."

"We must end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict before it is too late," Abbas said.

1. The Shrub sure doesn't believe in "fiscal conservatism" now, does he?
This guy spends money faster than it can be printed! 80 billion here, 50 million here, 9 billion lost over here...I guess it doesn't matter to him. It isn't his money, and he doesn't have to pay it back.

2. Ldotters give their two cents...
But if they had it to do over again, they'd put the bastard back in office in a heartbeat!

That'll buy a lot of bomb belts.

Reply 2 - Posted by: votedforbush, 5/26/2005 1:55:18 PM

There is no way to justify this move.

Reply 3 - Posted by: Cisco, 5/26/2005 2:00:09 PM

The original poster is on the money.
There would be a lot fewer blood thirsty, half crazed Muslims running around with loaded AK47's and bomb belts if they had to work for a living instead of being supported by foreign aid.

I prefer not to give them any more handouts until they start to move in the direction of making their own living.
But that isn't going to happen with the kind of leadership we have.
So any aid at all should be contingent on real progress on disbanding and disarming the militants, militias and other terrorists and murderers that seem to make up most of the population.

And I assume the Saudis will give billions to their muslim brethren....

Reply 5 - Posted by: wrytaway, 5/26/2005 2:09:14 PM

Can't we save some time and just deposit the money in the Swiss bank accounts of the Palestinian Authority bureaucrats?

Reply 6 - Posted by: cap MarineTet68, 5/26/2005 2:11:24 PM

THis irks the living daylights outa me! George, what the devil were you thinking?? This is mere appeasement - that will get more innocents and our soldiers killed.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Reply 7 - Posted by: RenoLuperini, 5/26/2005 2:18:44 PM

Guns or butter, butter or guns....H'mmm?

Reply 8 - Posted by: pallis, 5/26/2005 2:28:09 PM

This is the end result of much thinking, scheming, planning, analyzing and projecting by our very best experts, all paid by your tax dollars to make decisions that are in the interest of the US. They screwed up big time on this one. I want my money back.

Reply 9 - Posted by: recallhillary.com, 5/26/2005 2:37:25 PM

If this aid stops one terrorist from a suicide bombing in Israel, or one disaffected kid from joining up with Al Queda, it's well worth it. The amount is 1% of the annual foreign aid budget to Israel.

Reply 10 - Posted by: Blue Moon, 5/26/2005 2:37:52 PM

I thought it was the policy of the U.S. not to fund terrorist organizations. Guess not. BAD move, President Bush!

Reply 11 - Posted by: applepie, 5/26/2005 2:45:57 PM

I'm speechless.

Reply 12 - Posted by: RU4us, 5/26/2005 3:06:47 PM

And what if the interruption in the suicide bombings in Israel is due to the drying up of the PLA coffers. If one explosive belt is purchased with this new infusion of capital, the US taxpayer will clearly be a sponsor of terrorism.

Reply 13 - Posted by: 4LadyK, 5/26/2005 3:07:48 PM

What the hell has happened to the W I voted for, the W of 9/11?

I want my vote back.

At least I knew what Kerry would do.
W is acting like 9/11 never happened, first by letting 10+ million illegal aliens come on over and rape the country, and now by giving Palestinians money so they can buy more bombs to bomb Isreal, who is our true friend. And he's a Christian, he should know better.

I repeat, what has happened to W?

beats the heck out of the 60 or 80 BILLION Clinton was willing to spend to get his nobel peace prize

Reply 15 - Posted by: stemir, 5/26/2005 3:14:24 PM

Bush is prooving to be exactly what the Dems said he was. He just managed to keep it on the wraps untill after the election. Very sad.

Reply 16 - Posted by: RU4us, 5/26/2005 3:17:49 PM

We don't have the resources to seal up our Southern border, nor keep track of people who overstay their visas, nor promise today's workers their social security checks, nor protect our children from murdering perverts. Some how, though, we find $50 million dollars to help a murderous crew establish their own terrorist state?

Reply 17 - Posted by: GeneSmith, 5/26/2005 3:20:07 PM

But the secret side letter for the deal is that the Palis have to spend it all with Acme CO., Wile E. Coyote, President and Chief Technical Officer. IF you think they have problems with their home-made sewer pipe rockets now...

Reply 18 - Posted by: TeacherNet, 5/26/2005 3:29:06 PM

There is no secret strings attached to this... there never has been for the arab countries... just the Israeli Aid $$, which is always repaid on time with interest.

Gaza will turn into another southern Lebanon, with tens of thousands of rockets ready to fly into Israel at will.

Disgusting. Bush is an idiot to give them a dime until the terrorists and terrorism is gone... meaning we would never ever have to give them one cent.

Any money should be tied to concrete measurable actions, or withheld. The same should go towards the UN too.

Reply 19 - Posted by: nattering_nabob, 5/26/2005 3:31:14 PM

President Bush:

Not a fiscal conservative.

Not serious about the war on terror.

Reply 20 - Posted by: noddy, 5/26/2005 3:32:32 PM

That's not Bush's money. That's yours and mine. We are now funding terrorists. I think he's lost his marbles.

Reply 21 - Posted by: No NWO, 5/26/2005 3:49:51 PM

War on terrorism? What war on terrorism? Bush is giving OUR money (via confiscatory measures) and gives it to terrorists. What ever happened to: "You are with us or you are with the terrorists?"

Reply 22 - Posted by: citizen1, 5/26/2005 3:53:07 PM

Send the money to Gitmo and flush it down one of those famous toilets. At least that way it won't be used to kill innocent people.

Reply 23 - Posted by: slickwillie2001, 5/26/2005 4:06:38 PM

Let's record the serial numbers and see where it ends up.

Reply 24 - Posted by: Qwibnar, 5/26/2005 4:07:08 PM

While we're at it, how about government spending expanding exponentially every year no matter who we vote for? I don't buy the "spineless, wimpy Republican" theory any more.

Republicans and Democrats fight each other for power, not principles. Once they get into power, they act exactly the same. Once you control how trillions of dollars are spent, everyone wants to be your best friend. That kind of power is intoxicating, thus any politician has every incentive to keep expanding government.

The only difference between a Republican politician and a Democrat politician is in how sincere you can be about your desire to redistribute wealth.

Reply 25 - Posted by: LadyK, 5/26/2005 4:28:36 PM

When are we gonna stop trying to bribe people into liking us???
They will only use the money to buy weapons to kill innocent people.

Reply 26 - Posted by: applepie, 5/26/2005 4:49:58 PM

Yep. Ya can't buy love.

But, actually ''we'' aren't. ''We'' didn't make the decision to do this. ''We'' are just paying for it.

Maybe I just don't understand political decisions, made by those we voted into office, to represent us.

***Here they try & turn it on Clinton****

Another dumb idea. We actually pay people people to hate us, what a country.

Reply 2 - Posted by: simkeith, 5/26/2005 11:22:52 AM

Bad idea...VERY BAD!

Reply 3 - Posted by: GreyBird, 5/26/2005 11:25:36 AM

Headline should read "Bush may give more to Muslims who want to destroy America".

Reply 5 - Posted by: votedforbush, 5/26/2005 12:32:35 PM

Agree wholeheartedly with all of the above.

Bubba Clinton tried it. Doesn't work.

Reply 6 - Posted by: navybrat, 5/26/2005 12:37:48 PM

Just keeping giving hardworking taxpayer money away. After all, easy come, easy go.

Reply 7 - Posted by: RU4us, 5/26/2005 12:42:01 PM

Has anyone in our Government even speculated that the interruption in bombings in Israel could be the result of the drying up of funds at the PLA? If this goes through, we, you and I, will be the sponsors of the next group of women and children slaughtered by these animals.

Reply 10 - Posted by: rocket scientist, 5/26/2005 1:49:13 PM

Dittos #5 - Bubba Klinton did even worse than just give money away. He sent nuclear reactor fuel and technology to a terrorist enemy state North Korea. Now we wonder why North Korea is threatening its neighbors and us with nuclear weapons. Bubba Klinton has got to be the worst traitor ever to masquerade as president this country has ever had. He had to be some kind of foreign agent to do what he did.
