Bill Moyers says that journalists have a responsibility to question those in power.

Rush Limbaugh, speaking for the economic and political elites that currently occupy positions of authority, responds by charging that Moyers is "insane."

A debate has opened regarding the role of reporting in George W. Bush's America. But this debate is about a great deal more than one president or one moment in history. At the most fundamental level, it is about whether the American experiment as imagined by the most visionary of its founders can long endure.

Moyers set the stage at the National Conference for Media Reform last week, where he delivered a call for the redemption of American journalism. Though he was appearing less than a week after it had been revealed that the Bush administration ally who chairs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting had waged a secret campaign to drive him off the air, the former host of PBS's "NOW" program was calm and collected. The winner of thirty Emmy Awards reflected upon his own work and that of his colleagues on "NOW." But his real purpose was to defend the craft of journalism against the battering it has taken from those who believe reporters should be little more than stenographers to power. At a time when too many prominent journalists have accepted the diminished standards that their critics would impose upon them, Moyers raged against the dying of the light -- not so much for himself as for the Republic that will not stand without a free, skeptical and courageous press.

2. Moyer's shouldn't even acknowledge
that Limbaugh is alive. There is just nothing Moyer's could say to the fat pig that would mean anything to him and it would just make fat pig almost feel relevant.

6. Self-aggrandizing pig
note that in the transcript of Moyers comments the the words Rush or Limbaugh are mentioned how many times? None.
1st, this was about TV, not radio
2nd, Moyers wouldn't soil his tongue to utter Rush's name.

I think that Rush only commented on Moyer's speech so that he can imply that his name, Moyers' and journalism should even be considered in the same sentence. Hogwash.

I agree, I doubt in any followup that Moyers will mention Pill-boy.

5. Moyers is an ordained Baptist minister .. intelligent and low-keyed.
Limbaugh is a flamboyant, bombastic, drug-addled bag of butt-wind. To try to compare Moyers to Limbaugh is like comparing apples to dog turds.

7. Poor little big fat idiot rush limbaugh..
he sputters around and spews hate and can't think of anything cognizant to say.

In addition to living in Orwell's "1984"..we get the ilk of an oyxrush hoisted by a fascist press.

I'd love it if he were hoisted by his own petard.

8. Saw O'Reilly once blithering on and on
Edited on Thu May-26-05 04:57 PM by rurallib
about how could Moyers win a (I think) Pulitzer when he (O'Reilly) was at laeast as good and, unlike Moyers, didn't slant things. I was just scanning so I left quickly, but I was a little surprised that the RW echo chamber actually believes their own stuff. I always figured they knew it was bullshit and they were there to perform like trained seals.
Limbaugh vs. Moyers. Jesus, that's like the bad news Bears vs. the '27 Yankees. I let you figure out which is which.
