...long enough to say something about this:

http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050601/OPINION02/506010320

Now a series of events indicates that officer candidates at the academy have been subject for years to an obligatory heavy dose of evangelical Christian proselytizing. It was carried out to the point of constituting intolerance of other faiths or nonbelief with all of this acquiesced in or carried out by some academy authorities.

............................................................

Now Rep. Lois Caps, a California Democrat, and 45 other members of Congress have called for an independent investigation. Rep. Steve Israel, a Democrat from New York and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has called for an inquiry into Captain Morton's transfer.

The charge is that fundamentalist Protestants in the leadership of the academy have permitted and facilitated for years the promotion of Christianity and discrimination against practitioners of other faiths - Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Native Americans, even Catholics and nonevangelical Protestants - and nonbelievers.

The chief of Air Force chaplains, Maj. Gen. Charles C. Baldwin, said that someone engaged in such proselytizing might be considered simply as "being a positive person of faith, like our President."

1. Joe Lieberman says the Constitution allows freedom of religion..
not freedom from religion. Therefore, we are compelled by his interpretation, to choose a religion. Not quite as free as I delare myself to be.

2. Okay, fine.
I'm a pantheist. My God can swallow their God with plenty of room for dessert.

I win.

3. I will decide what god, if any, I will believe in after...
the matter is resolved in the traditional way. That is I will decide after all members of competing religions have killed each other and only one is left.

6. Some native tribes
referred to "God" as the "Great Mystery."

A most fitting term, if you ask me.

No one has the answers. If you're not still asking questions, you've given away your brain.

7. The native americans were called indians...
not because Columbus thought he was in india, but because they were
"In Deus" meaning in God, in innocence. Therefore, in compliance with western religion and tradition, he killed and enslaved them.

5. as opposed to, "a negative person of no faith"
or a "positive person of no faith", which is a no-starter, too much "gray" for the black-and-white American psyche

withers (Quebec, France). Where religion is left to freely grow it grows (USA). He pointed out that the extremes are hurting their own churches by expecting political change. They themselves are giving religion a bad name. He also said that Dems had to engage in dialog and be open to talk about their own morals. That many liberals left the door open for extremism by being so dismissive of the serious issues of the devout.
