Usually, this is the point at which a John McCain maverick come s out with some statement that bucks the conservative message in favor of "common sense", but I can't put my finger on a single Republican who thinks it was a good thing that Nixon's corruption was made public.

3. Congressman Henry Hyde (R-IL), has said that
the Republican Party is STILL trying to exact revenge for Nixon.
These people are fucking clueless.

4. Hyde is absolutely right.
It started with Nixon. Well, it really started with Goldwater, but it got kicked into high gear with Nixon: the Republican Propoganda Machine. There is a highly financed and highly efficient group of right wing "think tanks" and organizations that have been doing nothing for the past 30 years but convince the American people they're right. When Johnson swept 48 or 49 states, they started. When Nixon got nixed, they really got to work. And look, since Johnson, we've spent only 12 years with Democratic presidents. In the first half of the century you'd be hard pressed to find a Republican. What the Democrats need to commit to is a similar structure. We need to be churning out our own messages and leaders and running the same tactics they do. I'm not saying we need to go around South Carolina saying our opponents have black babies (who happened to be adopted from third world nations) like the Bush people, but we need to just be producing a constant stream of information. I hope Air America works, and I hope the Center for Progressive Leadership churns out a progressive Karl Rove. Because love him or hate him, Rove is good at his job.

5. Most Republicans are still pretending
that the Watergate scandal is the story of "a third rate burglary."

Everyone else understands what it really was - a series of crimes, including break-ins, illegal wiretaps, conspiracies to obstruct justice, attempts to use the IRS to punish political opponents, and other criminal acts.

Naturally, these idiot Republicans can't come out in support Deep Throat. They aren't interested in the truth.

7. John Dean has been on Olbermann for two days
IIRC he was still a bit skeptical that Felt was the one, at least the only Deep Throat.
