Women Presidents
I just found out that ABC has cast Geena Davis to be the President on their new show Commander-in-Chief. Does anyone think that NBC's The West Wing should have written a woman into the show as the next President. Even before I found out about ABC's decision I was thinking today that The West Wing should have made the next President a women. I would have liked it even if they had made a Hillary Clinton storyline, about a controversial woman whose husband was President and then she ran and became President. I think that could have been a good drama filled story line and not just because it was a woman as President. It could have been drama filled with them putting Republicans that greatly dislike the new President and are trying to stop her agenda in every way. In addition, they could have brought in issues like universal health care. I think it would have been a great season.

1. Sadly, in this country, a woman pres is in the realm of fiction or scifi.

8. If Boxer ran...
The electoral map would look like 1988, if not worse.

I think Boxer could win and would at least run strong.

15. How does she get to 270?
What "red" states does she hold a unique advantage in?

How is "middle America" going to vote for a frothing at the mouth "liberal" WOMAN?

I think Boxer is a great legislator, but looking at the situation logically I don't see how she could possibly do any better than Dukakis.

18. Fight Back
She would need to fight back and tell people why she does the things she does. Many people believe that Dukakis lost in '88 because he decided not to fight back against Bush. I think Dukakis could have won in '88 and I think Boxer can win now. I think many of the middle states will vote for her. She just has to talk about the issues. I do not think Kerry talked about the issues that much during his campaign in 2004. If she gives a clear alturnative to the Republicans she has a chance to win.

20. I just don't see how she could win
In many cases she is to the left of the party, and is definitely to the left of the nation at large.

They labelled a moderate like Kerry as a crazed liberal, imagine what happens when they get a real one?

What states do you think she can flip? Missouri? Iowa? Tennessee? Kansas?

Hell, I think she stands to lose ground in states like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, et al.

I don't see any reason to believe otherwise.

22. Mainly
Mainly they were able to label Kerry a crazy liberal because he did not fight back. There were many things that he could have done to help himself. I think Boxer can ask what is crazy about voting against a guy that does not like the U.N. She can ask what is crazy about standing up to a President and his people when they are leading the country in the wrong direction. She can ask what is crazy about standing up for people's right to vote.

3. Kind of makes you hope...
...that the neocons run Condi in '08. The Lordy Minority would stay away from the polls in droves. "Cain't in good conscience vote for a woman - she should be married and a stay-at-home mom!"

Hillary v. Condi would give them apoplexy.

7. Condi might win it....
Black folks don't just Looooove Hillary, and they didn't just Loooove Bill in the sense that you might think. They loved them better than the other white folks in power. That's not unconditional love.

Condi would certainly rip enough of the Black vote to eek out a win. Certainly, it would depend on how much she was willing to lie, and pose as a "Compassionate" Republican. Knowing her....she'd lie.

10. But Condi would have to, like, win the republican primary.
I'm sure she'd pull a big chunk of the NASCAR dad vote.:sarcasm:

13. No
I do not think Condi has any chance of winning the Presidency. She would not take that much of the black in that she is a Republican and she has many Republican stances on the issues. I contend that Condi is not liked very much in the black community especially after her 9/11 commission appearance. She would probably get the same 10% that Republicans always get, maybe a little bit more. However, she will lose it due to the south. People in the South will not vote for her, mainly becuase she is black. Hillary would not have to get Republican votes in the South just the fact that they stay home would hand Hillary the win.

17. I am from the Black Community.....
and I can tell you that many Black folks are not activists and don't follow politics so closely to where they know so much about Condi as to judge her in the harshest of light. But I will tell you that Black folks do give leeway to those African-Americans who have accomplished much (and Rice is no bag lady)...and most don't automatically hate one of their own...just cause they are in the Bush Administration.

Black folks are liberal on social and economic issues....however, when it comes to Foreign policy issues.....they will not automatically deem Condi a traitor. Colin POwell is a prime example. Some Black folks may not all hold him in the highest of regard....but many do. that's just the way it is.

6. In a sense, we've already had two women presidents
Edith Wilson and Nancy Reagan. Fill-ins for disabled husbands, however.

12. Not Fill-ins
I do not think Nancy was the fill-in. I think that job went to George Bush I. I do not know if Edith filled in for her husband.
