We've got Dean's back!
Help stop the fat cats in DC attacking Howard Dean. An attack against Howard Dean is an attack against the American people who work for their paycheck. Please make a small contribution of $10.01 or $20.01 everytime you come across an attack on Dean in the media. If you see the Dean Scream, please contribute $30.01

26. Actually, the intent of the penny
is to show that the donation is specifically made in support of Dr Dean.

With the extra penny, the number crunchers will be able to put the number of donations that include that extra cent into a separate column in their spreadsheet, and thus show that many donations coming in are motivated by grass roots support for Dr Dean's efforts.

You are sending a message with the extra penny - we support him and you, so called Dem leaders, had damn well better support him too or you won't get these donations.

28. Dean is great!
Remember, many of the Dems are Dem in name only. They really owe their souls to the company store, that is, corporations, lobbyists, campaign donors. They are the ones who gave up the filibuster in that faux-compromise, a devil's bargain if there ever was one.

Go Dean!

I've contributed to the DNC three times now since Dean became chair.

Read this article from Truthout:
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0607-27.htm

Dean's Democrats Remain Pathetic
(snip)
I witnessed something even more dispiriting two weeks ago, at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser and pep rally in New York. It was the sight of Howard Dean, erstwhile Democratic reformer and truth talker, talking nonsense on behalf of a party leadership that hates reform and despises the truth.

As chairman of the Democratic National Committee, the lapsed physician now carries the stretcher for a party too sick even to diagnose its own organizational self-interest, much less defend the social and constitutional principles now under siege by the White House. The only thing worse than Dean's prepared platitudes, sometimes shouted, is his virtual silence on the two great issues that Democrats work so hard not to confront: the hideous, mendacious war in Iraq and the big-money corruption of electoral politics and congressional legislation.

Include "The Nation" in this mindset as well.
They truly think progressive causes will only advance when the Democratic Party is dead.

It's partly our fault for triangulating for the past ten years, but we're not going anywhere, we're taking our party back and then our country.

The idea that people can fund things without corporate money has the big shots inside the beltway plenty nervous.

Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 02:48 PM by Zhade
You're absolutely correct that corporatists like the DLC, who lets people like the Koch brothers onto their executive council, hate and fear the ability of John and Jane Q. Democrat to fund change without being sewn together with anti-worker, anti-liberty policies pushed by the corporate elite.

We never should have allowed that match-made-in-hell to continue. This was also a failure of the rank-and-file.

*I say 'our' because, at the time the likes of the Koch brothers and their ilk were entering into financial relationships with DLC politicians, I was a Democrat.

93. Before you can do anything you have to put a structure in place and
that is what the good Dr. is doing. Watched him today at the DNC meeting (Sat) and he was great. I loved it when he said that it's OK to lose a state but you have to make an effort to win it! Can you imagine how the party workers in those ignored states must feel, now that they have somebody trying to help them out from the top???
It was obvious that the people representing the various caucuses and states really like Dean....I think if the DC crowd tries to squelch him, there would be a real movement out of the party, not just from us, but from the people who really are the backbone of the system. It's obvious that he really listens, he in fact announced a couple of new initiatives that had been suggested to him (one involving a Council on Veterans and the plan to get a veterans "office" in each state).

We need more Deans, not the Biden-Lieberman gang.

As well from the right. I can at least understand some of the flak from <wink at my friend Wyldwolf> the "DLC types", since they are defending their position in the party... the propaganda maniacs from Counterpunch and Commondreams have nothing to offer but divisiveness in their never-ending attacks on those who fail their purity tests. All they ever accomplish is to demonstrate why the Left has no influence in America.

No, that was the DNC. John Kerry is a member of the DLC but the DNC nominated him after he won the primaries.

63. Exactly!
What worries me is that this Dean bashing is coming from people in our own party. The higher ups in this party only care about themselves and their own career. We need to be unified. I think Biden is attacking Dean because he fears Dean could become a presidential candidate and he doesn't want the competition.

Is it just me or does it seem like when the democratic party puts out a candidate, they are really campaigning on their own? I felt that John Kerry had no backup last year. The talking head shows should have had democratic senators, advisors, etc. on these shows telling America why our candidate is the best candidate for America. I couldn't believe Carville and company bad-mouthing the Democratic candidates on Russert. The same went for Al Gore in 2000. The general attitude coming from the Democratic party organization was "your on your own kid". Bush has a huge organization behind him doing the campaigning for him.

Howard Dean is great because he is the man to get us organized and make our party a more successful party.

I have lurked here quite a bit after the November 2004 fraudulection. Here is an update on the "We've got Dean's back":

130 contributors, $3,372.00.

I also want to add that 12 people have contributed $321.07 to the ACTBLUE account over the last several days. The ACTBLUE account also shows support for Dean but it was created in Feb of this year. I am getting closer to getting a new "We've got Dean's back" account setup with ACTBLUE but the bat will not be up until Monday.

One more thing, there is a Dean speaks for me petition. You can see the diary at DKos here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/6/10/215519/522

and the petition is here: http://www.petitiononline.com/Dean/petition.html

Let's show we got Dean's back!

33. Here's one article from Media Matters
But a comparison of Dean's first three months as chairman shows that he has actually out-raised his predecessor during the same period in 2003. Dean raised $14.8 million between February and April (the latest data available), versus $8.5 million during that period in 2003, the previous non-election year. Additionally, the DNC has raised more in comparison to the RNC over the past three months than it did during 2003.

I also want to send a message to Democrats, like Senator Biden, who are stating publicly that Howard Dean doesn't represent all of the Democratic Party. The right is cheering the dlc'ers on, we gotta confron them every step of the way and correct the misinformation. they've already succeeded in creating some turmoil, they want an all out split though.

Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 11:30 AM by pat_k
The problem is NOT that they failed to defend Dean, it is that they failed to realize that they DIDN'T NEED TO!

They need to learn to use an attack like this as an opportunity to move the fight to our turf. Saying you are going to focus on important issues is NOT the same thing as actually DOING IT. (It is not necessary to say "I'm staying focused on the issues, they are trying to divert attention.” They just need to DO IT.)

I have been a broken record on this the past couple days, but it is critical that we get this. And once we get this, we need to hammer on them until they get it.

Please Read my post on this on Randi's Blog (Randi Rhodes Show)

40. Thank you so much for posting this
I made the original post on a website called Booman Tribune. I spend most of my time with ePluribus Media and OverseasVote but I was in the reading mood yesterday and saw some diaries regarding Howard Dean on Daily Kos and Booman Tribune. I was also furious when I watched Wolf Blitzer last Sunday and watched them try to make Dean look like a nutcase. Instead of getting mad, I decided to setup the "We've got Dean's back" donation page on the DNC to show our support for Howard Dean. We are almost up to $1,200 but many more people are going to wait until Friday. I thought it would be symbolic to donate a penny for the reasons you have mentioned in the above threads - it's an internet donation, it's a show of support for Dean and it represents us "little guys". I also thought it would be symbolic if we made Friday (payday for most people) a regular contribution day since most of us work for our paycheck and live off of it. If you interested, you can read my diary at:

MyDD: http://www.mydd.com/story/2005/6/8/103030/8522

Booman Tribune: http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2005/6/8/45841/41855

and Daily Kos: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/6/8/134325/1677

and would love to hear your suggestions on how to get the "We've got Dean's back" campaign moving. I live in Germany and need to get some sleep now but I will be back in the morning.

52. Well, thank you for getting this started
It's really shocking the way some Democrats are so resistant to the changes taking place. Howard Dean does speak for me and thousands of other rank and file Democrats who will bring this party out of the wilderness no matter who tries to stop us.

Glad to hear Air American radio has gone to bat for Dean.

Also on the Liberal Oasis this morning--Paul Begala stood up for Dean.

Afterall, he is just telling the truth.

If you can, give a little to show your support for Dean.

53. and can I say that "Democrats as usual" hasn't worked...
Dean is putting language out there that
is:
getting press attention
is framing an issue for discussion and deeper investigation
energizing the base again
just repeating what many at DU have posted over the years
and
separating out the wheat from the chaff in our "representatives"

Just tell the truth Doc and we'll cover your back.
