Begala exposes base hypocrisy of media dissing Dean on Inside Politics!
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 04:30 PM by flpoljunkie
Kudos to Paul Begala yesterday for pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of the RNC spoon fed media!

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0506/08/ip.01.html

BASH: Does it say more about the media? Or about the fact that Howard Dean is who he is and he has known to be a flame thrower. And people are listening for this. And is that an issue, a problem with your party?

BEGALA: And so, if a Republican chairman says something close to this, we don't notice. If Terry McAuliffe who preceded Governor Dean says something like that, we don't know.

I remember being -- working for Bill Clinton in 1992,the Republican chairman then was a guy named Rich Bond, who was a much more mild-mannered guy. He said Democrats are not real Americans. And you know what, nobody in the media cared.

It drove me crazy, because I happen to think I'm real American. But I think that is part of the issue is that Governor Dean is being held to a different standard. It may not be fair, but it's real. The media has decided that we're going to take our talking points from talk radio and pretend that this is somehow newsworthy that a Democratic chairman doesn't like Republicans.

1. Oh this sentence says it all for me.
"The media has decided that we're going to take our talking points from talk radio and pretend that this is somehow newsworthy that a Democratic chairman doesn't like Republicans."

3. Begala is no Dean fan, so note this good example of HOW to react to this
Even if you disagree with Dean's politics, as a Democrat you can hit back and defend him.

4. Here's another gem from Begala from this same transcript.

BUCHANAN: Paul, he's become -- instead of somebody who is representing a direction that the country -- that the party should take, he has become just the hatchet man, he's the attack dog.

BEGALA: That is the direction he wants the party to take.

BUCHANAN: He attacks Republicans at all places. But if you're trying to build a party, because right now, if you hadn't noticed, you don't have the House, you don't have the Senate, you're having trouble in state legislature and we have the White House. You might want to build, OK? You don't build by attacking all the time.

BEGALA: Yes, you do.

5. He gave the keynote address at a campaign seminar I attended...
in DC over the weekend.

His message was: Attack, Attack, Attack!

It was a great speech.

7. There is a fine line...
As Paul told us Monday, the GOP made the huge mistake of going after Bill Clinton personally in 1998. When the Monica story broke, his approval was 65% and by the time he was acquitted in the Senate it was 71%. In 2004, the Kerry campaign looked at results from focus groups and saw that people (especially in Ohio) said they didn't want negative campaigning. Kerry told everyone to play nice at the Convention - they even tried to censor Clinton. Karl Rove looked at the same results and went after Kerry, but didn't make it personal. Bush was strong, Kerry was weak. Bush was folksy, Kerry was stiff. Bush was one of the guys, Kerry was a wonk. Bush was decisive, Kerry was a waffler. He attacked, but he didn't say "John Kerry is evil" or "John Kerry is a bad man." He let the Daft Boat Slimeballs do that for him.

Don't go after Republicans because of who they are, go after them for what they believe.

8. This response coming from the Puke '92 keynoter?
"America is at war tonight, in a contest for her soul blahblahblahblah . . .

Or, as Molly Ivins said regarding Pat Buchanan's speech, "It probably sounded better in the original German."

13. RNC Chair Ken Melman LIED about the UK on Meet the Press as well...
...yet Dean makes a basically truthful statement (80% of Repubs ARE white Christians, ZERO GOP blacks or non Judeo-Christians in Congress)
and the media makes THAT the issue.

As far as Melman's lie- he said that the 9-11 commission found the UK memo was discredited.

Begaula should have used the CURRENT example of the media ignoring Melman's lie to prove bias even further.
