How do I defend the virtue of the Democratic Party ?

On many many occasions, I have heard RW'ers or their sympathizers tear down Democrats with alleged illegal or "immoral" deeds. Of course, I know they have their more than fair share of feces. How does one logically defend the Democrats ? Thanks in advance for your time.

what exactly do they say is illegal or immoral that dems are responsible for? sounds like basic RW extremist bible thumping to cover their own shortcomings.

1- The 1960 election "stolen"
2- the standard bs about Clinton
3- Carter being a total failure
4- Democrats being bad for small business

carter answer: carter come first. carter lose. reagan win. reagan is god. god is good. carter lose to god. carter bad. carter is satan. ugh.

clinton answer: sex is bad. clinton have sex. clinton bad. monica hot. clinton bad. ugh.

small biz answer: democrats make jobs. democrats make balanced budget. ugh. democrats make business good. democrats economy boom boom boom. repuke economy suck. ugh.

it helps if you speak their language - short sentences no more than two or three words. stop. ugh. next sentence. easy.

1. Nixon knew better than to challenge the election results in Illinois, lest his party's shenanigans downstate be uncovered.

2. Clinton couldn't keep his zipper up. BFD.

3. Nobody, nobody could have successfully navigated the late 1970's. He did, however, set in motion the monetary policies that led to the breaking of the inflationary cycle. While it caused the recession of 1982, it also made possible future expansion.

As to Iran, we'd been propping up the Iranian monarchy since the Eisenhower years. This was another pigeon come home to roost that was not sent out by Carter. He avoided an all-out war, and brought a crapload of stability into the Middle East by getting the Israelis and Egyptians to make peace.

4. The GOP is currently using the SBA as a slush fund for large corporations. Indirectly, I don't see small businesses particularly thriving. The ultimate success or failure of small businesses, more than even that of larger corporations, is based on the buying power of average American workers. Screw workers, screw small businesses. Small businesses have not done well under Bush. Period. The data's hard to pick through at sba.gov and at a few other places, but they show a shrinking or stagnant pie, and increased failure.

& the country is messed up, there is corruption everywhere, the government is cutting basic services to fund a global war machine. If they had problems with the 1960 election, they should have protested and made election reform work. Democrats are not bad for small business,
during the Clinton era, we prospered, and we had a budget surplus which we don't have now. Jimmy Carter, was a Christian and a veteran, he is a man of integrity, he now builds homes for the poor. I don't remember him bankrupting ssn or going to war w/o justification. Switch the debate around throw $10.00 on the table, & say name 10 things that Bush has done that has made this country a better place.

Are they blanket statements? Ask them specifically what immoral deeds.
They'll mention Clinton.
"Oh yeah. Bill lied about a BJ. What else ya got?"
The rethugs are very good at generalizing, but when pressed, rarely cite specifics. More often than not, they're just regurgitating.
Call them on it.

What was bad about Kennedy, Carter, Clinton (besides the BJ)? Don't give them any clues, just ask the question until they answer. Typically, they won't. They can rarely cite specifics.
Press the issue. Don't let them off the hook. When they have nothing, tell them as a Dem and therefore someone with a conscience, you refuse to shoot an unarmed man/woman.
That being said, we are not perfect. As another poster said, the eaisest way out if they do have something (they rarely do) and you don't have an answer (you should) is to tell them we learn from our mistakes.

These people have nothing but the same old tired generalities:
Dems are bad. Liberals are bad. Clinton was bad.
We need to call them on their bullshit.

the Democratic Party learns from such deeds but be sure and differentiate between the Democratic Party and an office holder who just happens to call herself/himself a Democrat.

How can any Republican defend the Republican Party against the criminal deeds of Nixon and Spiro Agnew to name a few criminal Republicans?
