Cheney: "Maybe (Dean's) mother loved him" ?!
This struck me as an outrageous quote. And hardly the parallel of a quote like "not very friendly to different kinds of people, they are a pretty monolithic party ... it's pretty much a white, Christian party."

First, is Howard Dean's mother alive? I did some quick searching and couldn't tell for sure one way or the other. I found some quotes from her in 2003 but nothing lately. If Howard's mother has passed recently then Cheney's quote is completely out of bounds.

Two, it implies that Dean's mother STOPPED loving him because it is phrased in the past tense -- "loved". That is just kind of weird. Also Cheney's quote is almost a vague version of literally calling Dean a MoFo.

The GOP reaction to Dr. Dean's taped conversation is showing their true colors. I think any American who looks at Cheney's comments with respect to Howard Dean's mother has to realize how thin-skinned and mean-spirited their Vice Resident is. Dean described a party which is 82% self-identified "white" and "christian" as being "pretty much a white christian party." Cheney responds by attacking the relationship between Howard Dean and his mother?? On what basis and to what end??

My other theory on why this quote sprung from Cheney's foul mouth is that it has more to do with Cheney -- projection. I have yet to find a Cheney bio on the net that mentions Cheney's parents. Does anyone have a link to a more complete Cheney bio?

2. Anything that forces the snarling old bastard Cheney into view
is a great thing. There's a reason they keep Cheney, Norquist, Rove, and all the other movers and shakers off camera and push poor dumb Fuckwit out there instead. The public won't long stand for seeing a lot of these men because they look and sound exactly like what they are.

Good job, Doc! You got them mad enough to push one of them out of the shadows to show people who and what he is!

I sincerely hope the pursed lip and wrinkled nose bunch in the party is being ignored. This is what we need, not more appeasement and capitulation. These guys are EVIL, and people need to see that.

3. Too much emphasis....
on this quote...it's not like he hasn't said awful things before, like the pre-election threat that electing Kerry would make the country less safe (obviously not his exact words)

To downplay the importance of this stupid back & forth, Dean's simple response should be...

"Consider the source"

Let's get back to talking the issues, and let BushCo wallow in the mud.

5. Dean alread responded to that...and in the best possible way:
Asked by a reporter Sunday to reply to Cheney's criticisms, Dean said: "My view is that Fox News is a propaganda outlet of the Republican Party and that I don't comment on Fox News." The response drew applause from the room.

11. I like this response also...
DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney said Dean, the former governor of Vermont, "must be doing something right if the vice president of the United States would stoop so low as to use the governor's mother as a way to deflect from answering the concerns of the American people."

17. Pitbull Attack!
Wasn't Karen Finney's comment the greatest? I hope they quote her for the next 36 hours.

Sending the old pitbull out to snarl and bite just might get him kicked in the ba!!s. Line up.
Cheney never did anything but run and hide and get his girlfriend pregnant so he wouldn't have go to Viet Nam...if he did that.
Oh Yeah, he's good at gaining money for himself and his corporation. But it's always someone else's money he's 'gaining'.

This administration has been lying at the top of their lungs for so long, even honest Republicans (??) are beginning to hear it.

Cheney takes aim at Democrats' chairman

WASHINGTON — Howard Dean is "over the top," Vice President Dick Cheney said, calling the Democrats' chairman "not the kind of individual you want to have representing your political party." In an interview to be aired Monday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes," Cheney said, "Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does." In recent weeks, Dean has described the GOP as "pretty much a white, Christian party" and said many Republicans have "never made an honest living." Republican leaders have called on him to apologize, and some Democrats have distanced themselves from his remarks.

I just heard it on Howard Stern;Robin Quivers quoted it,Stern said Dems made mistake,Dean could've won,he's a fighter, and Quivers agreed.

9. Biden, Ford etc like CHENEY better than Dean
I'm *really* disgusted with the Democratic party right now. Like last primary, they throw the kitchen sink at someone like Dean but treat Bush and Cheney with kid gloves. The Republicans can lie about anything from logging in our national forests to bankruptcy deform to nuclear weapons, and we don't hear jack from the tutu Democrats.

I'm pissed! Where are Richardson, Edwards etc. now??

22. Why should they speak out now, they only need to come out when it is
time to bash Dean or for Biden to get his mug on TV camera and grin with the repugs. Repugs would be howling by now if a Dem called a mother into play, look at all the clamor last year with Cheney's lesbian daughter. They came out of the woodworks every frickin repug that could get his/her face on TV or in the paper threw a punch.Even had Dems saying Kerry was wrong for mentioning Mary Cheney. So glad Dean is a fighter and I look for great things for him in whatever position he is in.

12. Yes, Howard's mother is still alive and she was a Republican until
last year when she switched to vote FOR her son in the NY Dem Primary. She lives on Long Island.

Cheney's retort to Dean, using Dean's mother, is worse than Kerry's truthful remark that Cheney's daughter is a lesbian.

Might be fun though I doubt Howard needs his mommy to stand up for him.

21. You can pretty much tell that he was abused as a child
He's a pathological bully and liar. Something tells me that Cheney is a tough guy who runs his mouth only when in the protection of others. If you take away that protection, he'd act more like a sniveling coward.
