Michigan DU'ers: Why is Jennifer Granholm's approval rating so low?
I thought it was really high last year. What's been going on in Michigan that turned her ratings so low?

Might she lose the upcoming election?

1. Likely the high unemployment

Michigan's in deep doo-doo due to the auto industry slump (and greater dependence on manufacturing).

3. it might have something to do with the 7% unemployment rate

only DC and PR beat us!

An auto-based economy w/ the auto industry taking a huge hit - tensions are pretty high and not even JG can escape it.

5. The decline in the fortunes of GM and Ford is affecting Michigan badly.
That,of course, has nothing to do with Jennifer Granholm but Michigan has a particularly virulent Republican Party concentrated in the Western part headed by the DeVos Family which combines its Amway pyramid scheme with fundamentalist religious fervor.

6. There is also a tree thing going on -- we got some kind of contagious
tree disease, and you can't take firewood camping for fear of infecting more parts of the state. Its pissed a lot of people off. I still like her, tho. :)
