Hey, sorry for basically spamming the board, but I found this site linked at Crooks and Liars and felt I had to share it. I'm so excited that the left is finally and seriously fighting back against the religious right. And I'm not even particularly religious. :P It's just refreshing to see faith being used to heal instead of hate.

Oh, and I made a judgment call about posting this in Politics, seeing as how religion has become a massive wedge issue in our politics. But no hard feelings if the mods feel otherwise and choose to move it.

1. Speaking of religion and the right and the left, I want to share this
again. I posted this earlier; however, it went down really fast.

Can a minister be a lobbyist and can a lobbyist be a minister all at the same time? The answer must be yes because that is what Falwell is calling his new Moral Majority. He now is calling it, "The Liberty Alliance/MORAL MAJORITY COALITION.

It states that this organization that he has decided to chair the first four years (considering he is 71 years old). Also, Dr. Tim LaHaye (LEFT BEHIND) will serve as the Coalition’s board chairman as well as one of Falwell's sons, Jonathon.

http://www.moralmajority.us /

At the bottom of the above URL, you will find the following statement . . . "This website is sponsored by The Liberty Alliance/The Moral Majority Coalition. The Liberty Alliance/The Moral Majority Coalition is a not for profit educational and lobbying organization."

Now Falwell barely, if ever, says ANYTHING political behind his pulpit in his church, which is good, and should have been that way from the start. Before the s(e)lection of 2004, the man was going absolutely nuts about Bush's reelection. Since Bush was re(s)elected, Falwell has calmed down.

On Falwell's site where you can listen to his services, they had more than the past five years' worth of services on there. I was trying to record as many as possible before the election due to the IMHO unbelievable remarks that had been made. Well, one day they were there, the next day they were gone. Now, they only have his sermons available from the end of 2004 up until today. Also, the transcripts never matched his sermon. Within the transcripts, they always remove any stupid political statement he might make. That's why I was trying to record the older sermons. I wanted to edit the political stuff out of them and post on my board.

It was utterly amazing how fast those old sermons were removed. They even have it set up to go back many years to search for a sermon and date; however, it will always say NOW that there are no available records for those dates. I think someone went over them and heard some of the things Falwell was saying. No reason to post inflammatory information on one's self on line when you do not have to.

I joined as a Charter Member to get his Newsletter every week. Let me share just a short sentence or two regarding this new lobbying, educational group.

This is what he has to say about our new DNC Chair, Howard Dean.

"THE HATE LANGUAGE OF HOWARD DEAN

"You know, when presidential candidate Dean self-destructed during the Iowa caucus last year in his now infamous meltdown, his supporters declared that his astonishingly creepy behavior was a glitch in his otherwise normal manner."

That little comment about "astonishingly creepy behavior" is not hate language" He goes on to say that Howard Dean is a, "Mr. Dean has become the poster child for what most Americans abhor."

Since I cannot post the whole newsletter here, I'm going to post it on my site where you can read the whole thing as well as my rebuttal. I joined Falwell's site as a "Charter Member" so I could get these "insider" emails. Any of you could do the same. I will post them on my site as I receive them. I will make note of what really stands out the most in them here as I get them.

2. It's about time!
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 05:04 PM by personman
I joined this morning & signed the Jacksonville petition they have linked. It's been a long time since I felt any sense of pride about having been raised as a Christian. My knowledge of the bible is extremely lacking, and I probably wouldn't believe much of it anyway, but I do believe in God and I doubt he is a bigot like the right wing might have us believe. If God hates gays and blacks and jews, etc...why did He make them. ;)

I don't think an intelligent, reasonable, compassionate God would make a whole race/type/form of person just to hate them.
