I will NOT bash Durbin. Too many already have. Too damn many.
But neither will I condone what he did or said today in the Senate. His original statement was correct, not only in spirit but in actual word. There are simply too many who cower to this cabal. Too damn many.

So, too, are there too damn many on our side (this is for you, Joementum, you fucking loser) more than willing to stand in condemnation right along with our enemies. Too damn many.

A line needs to be drawn in the sand. This shit from the right can not be tolerated. Too many of our good people are being attacked this way. Too damn many.

Message to weak-kneed Dems: Stand up or shut up, you fucking cowards. There are too damn many of you who lack the basic pair of balls (or brass ovaries, if you prefer) to do the right thing. Too damn many.

Joe ..... you listening, you fucking middle-of-the-roader, McCain fellating, fuckwad?

3. I didn't call Durbin weak kneed
Nor did I bash him.

'Weak kneed" refers to those on our side, like Joementum, who are only too quick to run from any controversial statement or action that comes from others on our side.

Please re-read what I said.

4. Lieberman is leading the fight to get rid of Tomlinson
at CPB.

I don't like Lieberman, btw, but it happens to be true.

Nor do I like Biden, but he's leading the fight against Bolton.

Anyway, wtf does Lieberman have to do with Durbinn, except introducing a favorite DU target into the discussion?

8. I'll say what I think
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 08:32 PM by Cocoa
I actually don't think you mean anything, or else if you do it's obscured by your name-calling and profanity.

I'm not being PC, and I'm not "offended." What I'm saying is that that less-than thoughtful way of expression prevents me from getting what you're saying, and makes me suspect you're not saying anything.

Speaking of thoughtfullness, I thought Durbin's apology was much more thoughtful, and more in character for Durbin, who I think is great, than his original comments.

And I don't think that the controversial part of his comments were very true at all. Speaking for myself, what I've heard about Guantanamo didn't make me think of Nazis at all. They made me think of very common and very terrible human rights abuses, much worse of which are going on right now in a number of countries, which don't rise to the holocaust, not even close.

14. You're perfectly welcome to say what you think.
As am I.

And just to be perfectly clear:

I will not bash Durbin. What he originally said was correct and there was no need to say he was sorry. To his credit, his 'apology' was quite narrow in its scope and did not overturn what he said in the first place; it only addressed his phrasing. All that said, it is my opinion that no further comment on the matter was needed from Senator Durbin. He and I differ on that point. But once again, I am not bashing him.

As to Joementum ..... I brought him into the discussion because he is **famous** for self-righteously rebuking fellow Dems any time they offend the great Oz. Who was first out there back when the shitstorm started against the Big Dawg? That lone, whiney, Deputy Dawg voice of Joementum, all alone, whining away at the Big Dawg. Since that famous one, ol' Joe's been exceedingly consistent in this tactic. And for what? Self-aggrandizement? (Memo to Joe ... no one gives a shit. Your own party thinks you're a wanker and the Repubs think you're a patsy.) Does he think this makes him look .... I dunno .... centrist?. In any case, true to form, ol' Joe's managed to insert himself into this dust-up too. If he **really** wants to act republican, maybe he ought to take a play from St. Ronald's script ..... speak no ill of your fellow (in this case) Dems.

The whole point of my OP was to say that we should not be caving in to 'morality blackmail' or '(self) righteous indignation blackmail ..... particularly not from *this* crowd. And as a follow on point, none of our elected 'luminaries' should be bashing our own people over otherwise brave statements.

As to the tactics in use in Guantanamo .... I *do* think the tactics put people in mind of what the Nazis did. Perhaps not *specifically* the same, they are certainly close enough to count.

15. We're being silenced
And then pitted against each other for good measure. God, I'm so tired of the constant manipulation and watching it actually work. We need all the dems working on our side. We need the grassroots to rise up and show them they don't have to back down. We've got their backs. Bush & Co. are fighting for survival right now and they're pulling out every nasty punch they can. It's only going to get worse. We have to become stronger and smarter.

9. Joementum endorsing McCain for 2008 - what a nauseating thought!
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 08:37 PM by ClarkUSA
WASHINGTON - Under fire from Republicans and some fellow Democrats, Sen. Dick Durbin apologized Tuesday for comparing American interrogators at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to Nazis and other historically infamous figures.

"Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line," the Illinois Democrat said. "To them I extend my heartfelt apologies."

His comments were taken WAY out of context. Grow a pair and look forward to 06 and 08 where we take back our nation!

13. I won't bash Durbin. He's one of the few Senators
that I really, really like. I will say that when I heard about the apology, (and McCain's remarks) while driving around listening to AAR, I cussed out the radio and almost started crying. That's saying alot considering how emotionally numb I've become lately.

Today I feel that, as a Democrat, I have been totally humiliated. What was it that Grover Norquist said about neutered barnyard animals?

I feel sorrow and humiliation, more than anger.

Even if Durbin was wrong (which he wasn't), our people should never be apologizing for themselves to the Repukes, especially in light of all the outrageous things the Repukes have said and not apologized for.
