The al Qaeda connection to Iraq lie: More cause for torture?
How many soldiers must have gone over there thinking they were striking back at the folks who caused 9-11 and how many wanted to extract a pound of flesh in retribution?

How many soldiers might have gone over the edge because they thought the Iraqi population had no regard for innocent civilians and thus deserved no regard themselves?

If they had been told the truth would we have less instances of mistreatment and torture?

Within the context of the torture memos, would we have less soldiers willing to carry out such extreme brutality if they had known there was no connection?

I'm not trying to portray soldiers as vicious little mercenaries, far from it. I think by not telling soldiers the truth it put them in more danger.
