Gallup Poll: 85% polled Against Return of Draft.
Are people wising up? They don't want to sacrifice their kin for meaningless Imperial barbarism?

Gallup: Those Opposed to Military Draft Hit Record High

By E&P Staff

Published: June 24, 2005 10:10 AM ET

NEW YORK With military recruitment shortfalls reaching a near-crisis, a new Gallup poll suggests further troubles, as far fewer American adults express support for their children enlisting. Gallup also has found that Americans opposed the return of the military draft by overwhleming numbers, with 85% against it, the highest level ever.

In what it calls a “significant decline,” Gallup found that by a bare majority, of 51% to 48%, parents would support a decision by one of their children to join the military. This is down from 66% positive to 29% negative in 1999.

Surprisngly, there is only slight difference among parents who have served in the military and those who have not. Just 56% of the veterans would support a decision to join the milltairy

Many back the idea of some sort of mandatory military training leading to joining the reserves after a kid reaches the age of 18. Some 35% back this notion, but this is still barely half the number in 1955.

1. listen up pro-draft DU'ers
if Dems fall into the Repuke trap and reinstate the draft in a failed effort to make Repukes send their kids to fight their illegal wars, Dems will lose elections for a generation!!

Americans do NOT want the draft. Make the Repukes do it all on their own.

2. Dem's can't reinstate shit.
We only have power to stop things anymore. We can't pass a single piece of legislation. Ain't no way we could pass a draft anyway.

Arguing for a draft is simply a rhetorical tool!

11. they can propose shit
but you're right, only the repukes can actually reinstate it.

I should have been more specific...Dems should run screaming FROM the idea of reinstating the draft or it will be pinned on them by Rove for eternity.

3. In that case,
the same 85% should be against the war.

4. It's easy to be against the draft
but many in this country unfortunately support policies that will probably soon make it a necessity.

5. If only those who have supported pre-emptive war would volunteer or offer
their children and/or grandchildren to the military, there would be no need for a draft.

7. I'm confused. If this many people oppose the draft, why are we at war?
Someone tell the GOP young they have no excuse for not signing up voluntarily. You want Bush, you want war, support it by enlisting.

8. Indeed.
Shut your Brownshirt pie-holes, strap on some Combat boots, and go pound sand!

Fearless Leader needs you to fight in the place of his kids and other Chicken Hawk offspring.

Halliburton needs you to protect their convoys.

PNAC needs you to extend American Empire.

Oil companies need you to help exploit the natural resources of 3rd world countries, no matter how nasty it gets.

So go sell your HUMMER, use the money for flak jackets for your platoon...

..AND GO GET SOME!

Or do y'all just talk the talk?
