Video: Fox News Tries To Spin Fake Applause
If you haven't heard, the only applause during the Bush speech was started by a Bush staffer. When FOX News heard of this they had to spin the news so it wouldn't make Bush look like a clown. Fair and balanced my ass!

On the positive side it is a little funny that even Fox News admits that the applause was fake.

1. jeez, don't they get tired of this bullshit??
It seems like more trouble than it's worth to constantly defend, spin and polarize. They should give up.

Do they get subsidies?

2. What I loved about all of the spin.....
is that, at the very end....after Clark came in and slapped everybody to reality by saying that Bush had not accomplished to goal of answering the questions as to why Iraq was going so bad.....the panel (Fred Barnes) agreed with Clark...that Bush did not answer those questions.

I didn't watch the Chimp, it is bad for my health! I am grateful to the many DUers that have the stamina to watch Bush and then post the lies he told.

9. Andria Mitchael said the troops were only requested TO BE POLITE!
I think it's reveling that they had to be ASKED to be polite.
Did they think he might get booed?

10. "The troops were given strict instructions to hold down the hahooo's"
"There's a lot of pent-up enthusiasm in here, & there were some officers who warmed up the crowd & allowed them to get out their hoohaa's beforehand."

What really happened...

The crowd was warmed up beforehand so that they would actually show enthusiasm during the creep's speech but they didn't deliver, so now Faux News is spinning their usual lies to make a booby prize look like first prize.

15. No WMD, Plenty of 9/11, Hardly any Applause
By my count (speech started at 8:00 pm)

9/11 Reference #1 at 8:02 p.m.
9/11 Reference #2 at 8:04 p.m.
9/11 Reference #3 at 8:09 p.m.
9/11 Reference #4 at 8:24 p.m.

BTW - Suprisingly, Bush referred to Osama Bin Laden by name...

Osama Reference #1 at 8:07 p.m.
Osama Reference #2 at 8:09 p.m.

1st applause did not occur until 8:25 p.m.

18. Ha, Ha, Ha, They told the soldiers not to show their enthusiasm!
They said this to explain the lack of any response from the audience. Then Fox made a big deal about the applause at the end, but failed to mention it was staged by Washington staff. Fox news, same as it always was, the Republican news station.

24. The thing I can't fathom
is telling people, even soldiers, NOT to applaud.

I don't get that at all, doesn't he WANT to look popular to someone, even if it's "just" people in the military (who are assumed to be mostly republican supporters)?

29. because there would not be enough to make him look good
Of course they had to say they were told not to applaud, because it would have been weak applause.

The 82nd airborn had some bad press due to their vague mission when they opened up on innocent teenagers in Fallujah.

I'm sure the reaction was not in favor of the souring President.

The Bushies in the crowd were hoping that they would get their best response caught up in the heat of the moment, but even that could not rally the reluctant troops that want the hell out of Iraq.

That is the lamest spin EVER!!! Why would the troops be instructed not to applaud Bush??? They were probably told not to boo and cat call. :applause:

31. Wouldn't the best sign of support being loud applause from our troops?
But let's face it - you're stationed at Fort Bragg and forced to watch this speech. I know what I'm thinking: "this lameass better figure out an exit plan or it might be me coming home in a body bag from Iraq"

Bush loves applause for his speeches, he always has. I believe this was a signal sent by the Military Guys to say we don't approve of this....

28. Remember the 82nd Airborne and the Fallujah massacre.
The 82nd Airborne are the infamous unit that opened fire on youth student peaceful demonstrators in Fallujah. The video footage from the event was filled with mangled teenage bodies.

This is documented, among other places, in Yaroslav Trovimov's book "Faith at War: A journey on the frontlines of Islam, from Baghdad to Timbuktu"
