On a very seriious note, and war
folks we throw a lot of banter about the cowardice of your average Young Republican (Yes Freeps this means you)... We all know they are cowards to the core and wearing a uniform is not somethign they plan to do, for they have other priorities... and I mean gee golly, serving could get them killed.

Now, now, last night we saw a silent protest from our Warriors... all excuses, such as military protocol demands they are silent are empty, for they were expecting plenty of Hoo hahs... they have lost the military and here is the other major split in society... between those who serve and those who are cheerleaders for war... and those who serve are now despising the cheerleaders... we all know this and I'd say the GOP has lost the military (assumng they ever had them, all propaganda to the side) After all conservatives, especially rich and well connected conservatives, have shown such a deep yellow line running down their backs to the polycistal cyst, they don't need no protective running vest. Yuo can see these boys and gals a mile away... sporting the latest fahions and carrying a made in China old Glory.

So time for the left (yss you know who you are) to embrace these troops and make sure they have what they need to complete the mission, but far more importantly to live AFTER they leave the service. Some do have a problem separataing the low level troop from the men and women who issue the orders. If you need to blame anybody... start at the fucking top, but open your arms to those troops. They will need our help to understand that we don't blame them for the poliicies of those in command. I may add this does nto apply to General and Flag level officers who have few choices, but in protest they should have resigned en masse... but that is another story for another day.

2. The best thing I can do for my friends in the armed services...
... is help their command chain give them realistic missions that make real sense and make a real difference for our country. And yes, I start at the top with the CINC and Congress.

By eliminating unnecessary missions and pointless risks, fewer of our troops get killed or maimed.

Years down the road, this directly translates into fewer diseases and debilitations to fix with our health care system. That frees up resources for those who really needed to venture into harm's way.

For troops and civilians alike, serving your country doesn't have to mean getting all shot up macho style. There are smarter and less dramatic ways.

3. I've given up on tv. I didn't watch, so I'm at a disadvantage, but...
they didn't clap? Oh, my. Things have changed.

I feel for the troops and their families. Real sacrifices. Sacrifices I can't imagine and don't want to ever have to imagine. They are not to blame for lies, bad policies, and war profiteering.

4. I support the troops, but I will do not support the war...

Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo.
Shovel them under and let me work.

I am the grass; I cover all.

And pile them high at Gettysburg
And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun.
Shovel them under and let me work.
Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:

What place is this?
Where are we now?

I am the grass.
Let me work.

Carl Sandburg
"Grass", 1918

5. Poor Leadership; Draft Young Republicans!

It's great that the left/etc. is back on the side of the soldiers. Remember: They are good people doing impossible jobs. Support them. Focus your attention on political 'leaders' who refuse to do theirs.

The Young Republicans National Convention July 6-10 2005 Mandalay Bay Las Vegas NV is still collecting Chap-Stick and other corporate tchotchkes. They are treating American servicemembers as hired help.

And the Young Republicans are scared:

7. You want to win the peace? Easy
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 04:45 PM by Timmy5835
Why don't we just employ the Iraqis. Instead of giving these multi-billion dollar contracts to U.S. companies to rebuild give the money to them and let them rebuild their OWN country. It seems to me if they are all employed re-building their country they won't much feel like blowing themselves up.

11. Yep, know all about fragging since Dad went to 'Nam. Hubby is still
on active duty and I used to be in the Army. Daughter tried to get into the Navy and was medically discharged during boot. Son is coming home from the Marine Corps because after infantry training he developed a super severe case of rigid flat foot and he's been made to get out. Need I say how thrilled I'll be next year when hubby finally retires (after over 28 years and two war zones)? I really resent these assholes who talk up a good fight from their armchairs. BTW, when you wrote lil' ol' Nathan, did you get an almost immediate snotty PR piece back from the YRNC?
