Senator Kennedy: Accountability in Iraq
NOTE from the LUTD - This was posted by Senator Kennedy on LUTD, many thanks to Senator Kennedy for taking the time to post on our LUTD!!

Accountability in Iraq
29 June 2005

President Bush addressed the nation once again last night about the war in Iraq, and once again he refused to level with our troops and the American people and offer an effective strategy.

The Administration's view of the war in Iraq is divorced from reality, and does a disservice to our troops and the American people. Only when President Bush, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and the rest of the Administration address the realities of what is happening on the ground can we hope to make progress in the region.

We must hold them accountable for refusing to outline an effective strategy for success in Iraq.

That's why I ask you to join me at my website and insist that the President lay out an effective strategy on Iraq.

2. Ted Kennedy: BUSH is in his last throes of credibility!
Accountability!! -- "The work in Iraq is difficult and dangerous," Bush said. "We have more work to do and there will be tough moments that test America's resolve." All 17 US troops in Afghan crash believed dead.

nah! - the sh*t has hit the fan long ago, time to awaken the sleeping giant!

3. Teddy should crawl back inside a whiskey bottle.
He should still do what he doing now, but he should come all fucked up. It'd be hilarious and good TV.

11. Let me be clearer.
I'm just saying that Teddy should arrive all fucked up. It would be classic. Besides, he'd probably say what is on his mind and not give a fuck about the consequences.

12. C'mon......
why do you have to trash the man? Alcoholism is a family disease; it's very tragic and not something to humiliate people over.

I'm thankful Sen. Kennedy is speaking up.

5. Kerry should be asking why we're IN Iraq...
...not for a better strategy.

Nothing will change until more Democratic leaders admit that invading and occupying Iraq was illegal and a war crime.

The war crimes continue. What will Kerry do about it?

15. I think *I* missed the memo
Can you tell me why this is not support for continuing the war? It basically implies that the problem is not the war itself, but the fact that Shrubling is losing.

"We must hold them accountable for refusing to outline an effective strategy for success in Iraq."

16. Translation
"We must hold the Administration accountable for refusing to admit the truth and refusing to propose an effective strategy for success. Our soldiers need more than a public relations campaign from the Administration to win this war. They need honesty and leadership."

Success is taking the steps to exit Iraq!
Success is cleaning up the MESS that Bush made before we leave!
Success is getting the Fuck out of there!

Sorry, I get those are the words you would like to hear but you won't find them in something posted on a blog by Senator.

Why is that so HARD for some people to understand?

Here's an analogy for you...

Bush bought a car, a very, very expensive car and he drove it into a wall. He took out a loan on that car and he still has to pay for it. He fucked up their country, he/WE can not cut and run with out repairing it first. SAD but TRUE.

Democrats are calling for exit strategy, Bush says no. Democrats will keep up the call.

I get that people want to hear the screams and the foul language from Dems in office, but it's ludicrous to expect teenage behavior from grown, well educated men!

19. It's beyond the time for that
Kerry spoke out frequently against going into Iraq before the war started. Now that we are there Kerry is concentrating on a rational strategy which would allow us to get out of there.

6. Thanks! I signed the letter.
"Stay the course" is not a strategy, it's just rhetoric.

Americans know that Iraqis did not fly into the Twin Towers. Osama Bin Laden did and four years later he is still running free. Instead of going after him you chose to occupy Iraq and the result is we are responsible for the deaths of innocent Iraqis every day -- children who had nothing to do with 9/11.

Two years after it was brought to light that Halliburton/KBR was grossly overcharging and feeding soldiers rotten food, the practice continues. Two years after it became known that our soldiers lacked proper body armor and Congress appropriated 10s of billions of dollars to provide necessary protection, our soldiers' families still are asked to pay out of their pockets for life-saving protection. Soldiers continue to die needlessly each week from roadside bombs.

This war was a mistake built on a lie. It is time to develop a real exit strategy and start being honest with the American people. We're fed up!

8. "divorced from reality" taken straight from Sen Hagel. More R's need to
start speaking up or they'll be tossed like salad in '06 ! Ted shouldn't be doing them any favors though. The R's know better now and are painfully silent.

9. I don;t think Kennedy is doing them any favors.
Maybe we need to turn their talking points against them.

14. yes,
we're going to turn their talking points against them, because their talking points are based on lies and distortion. I don't know about anyone else, but my plans for the 4th of July are to work on language.
